So the goal here is to do one drabble for each prompt from 64damn_ prompts on livejournal. It's in the order of the prompts, not the timeline of the show. Hope you enjoy!

Prompt: 2 A.M

Angel wings spread over water worn wishes
Guarding the dreams and the things left unsaid
Here we are wandering, aimlessly roaming
Lovers who linger and never forget
And when it's done we will walk where the road meets
the sun

-Katie Herzig and Matthew Perryman Jones

Tick.

He hears the minute hand move. Another minute past. Its 2 AM and he's still not asleep. Not even close.

Tock.

He can't get comfortable, not with the right side of the bed cold. He used to sleep in the middle, before three years ago, but he can't get used to it now. He twists and turns, sits up, lies down, punches the pillow where her head would be if it were three weeks ago. "Dammit!" He turns on the light. Tries to untangle himself from the blue sheets stuck to his body.

Tick.

He reads. He eats. He picks up the phone to call Miles, to call Kate, and hangs up before the first ring is through. Whenever he couldn't sleep in the last three years (before three weeks ago), he would wake her up and they'd talk. They'd play a game. They'd find a new recipe to make from the dharma cookbook and they'd crack eggs and mix batter until they were nearly asleep at the stove.

When she couldn't fall asleep she'd sneak out to the dock. He'd wake up to an empty bed as the door snapped shut. He'd always go after her.

Maybe she's there now. He settles back against the pillow and turns off the light, thinking of the shimmering reflection of the water in her eyes. Thinking maybe...

Tock.

Its 2 A.M and she's still not back.

(Never will be) he thinks as he twists and turns, tangled and trapped in the blue sheets. But he continues to lie to himself anyway. It's the only way to get himself to sleep at night.

It's the only way to get himself up in the morning.
