SPOILER ALERT: For anyone who has not watched episode fifteen, there are spoilers. This will be a one shot unless asked to be a chapter story.
"SONNY! BEAN!" Hanji fell to her knees in tears at her lost titans. The poor things had barely been able to see day in her hands, the awful murderer would pay for this. "I promised they wouldn't hurt you, Sonny," she said as she laid a hand on the bones of what she remembered to be Sonny. "And Bean." She looked at the other heap of bones that once held together Bean. "I promised you too," she sniffled. Hanji was so distraught that she could not even touch the other's bones. "I've lost you again…I'm sorry…"
*Years earlier*
"Mommy!" Her eldest, Bean, ran towards her to embrace his mother in a tight hug before he would leave for training. Bean was thirteen years old, a year older than the normal age to go into training as he wanted to wait for his brother, Sonny, to be able to join with him. "Bye bye, I'll see you in a few years!" Hanji smiled at the bravery her sons displayed as she watched them leave. She knew they would never return, but she was glad they would die as heroes.
*three years after the previous paragraph*
Hanji stood at her door after she heard a sharp knock on it. She knew it could be only two things. She hoped it would be her sons, standing there, only a few years older than when they had left. They would tightly embrace and happily live until they died on a mission. That or a member of the corps was waiting to tell her that her sons had died and that she would never see them again. She cautiously opened the door, tears already in her eyes as she saw an unfamiliar man in uniform, holding two patches. "These belonged to your sons," he said to her. "I'm sorry, Hanji Zoe. Your sons were eaten in combat."
"No they weren't," Hanji placed a hand over her mouth. "No, no they weren't." Why did I let them go, she asked herself over and over again. They were too young to die so horribly. "Miss?" the man interrupted. "Miss are you-" "Sign me up to join the trainees!" she screamed. "I want revenge on those horrible bastards!"
She had been through training and was on her first mission to the outer world. It was beautiful yet heartbreaking as she could still see the blood from the previous missions, possibly being her sons. I won't die this time, she told herself. I have to avenge my sons. Her horse continued to slowly ride in the territory. The first flare was shot, indicating the sighting of a titan. "It's an abnormal!" shouted her squad leader as they shot their horses faster.
"Wahoo my first titan!" she screamed as it came into her range of vision. "I'm gonna kill it with no mercy!" Hanji looked up to the titan and realized the familiarity of its face and hair. S-Sonny… "Sonny! Don't kill that one, it's Sonny!" As the titan fell to its death, Hanji cried out in sorrow as something snapped in her head.
If one looked like Sonny, then Bean must still be alive as well. Maybe in some strange way, her sons were connected to new titans. Dead humans could possibly be formed into titans if they were eaten, so if one titan died could it be regenerated into a human? Or would it become a titan once more? It was then that she decided she wouldn't want to hurt titans, but find more about them. Maybe if she found out more, she would be able to know what truly happened to her sons.
Cute? Yes? No? Maybe? I may or may not work on one for Jean and Marco, which will not be a pairing. I've also considered writing one for Ivan (that person that died but was never really shown. He's mentioned in episode 22.)
