Nair

I used the lines said between the brothers in 'Hell House' for my idea. :) Hope you enjoy:)

Nair

"Dad," a thirteen year old Sam asked, "Dad, I think I have cancer."

John was sitting in his chair, famous for the beer smell that radiated off it. They had finished a hunt about a week ago and were waiting for the next one to roll around. Sam made sure that their Dad only had one beer, just enough to still be sober, but enough to forget about their chat – if needed – tomorrow.

"What," John asked as he sat up in his chair, a bit worried, as he looked at his youngest son who was standing in the doorway.

"I think I have cancer," Sam repeated as he entered the room, walking toward John.

"Where's this coming from?"

"I… I- uh… I've been loosing my hair. It keeps coming out in patches. And I read online that hair loss can come with cancer."

"What," John asked, bewildered.

"Yeah."

"Kneel."

Sam was on his knees as John looked at the top of his head. Parts of his hair were missing, others very thin. And his hair had a familiar smell to it. John couldn't place it though.

"Sam," he ordered, "Go get your shampoo."

Sam stood, nodded, and ran out of the room. Seconds later, he was back, bottle in hand. John took it and opened the cap. He took a whiffed of it. The smell was thick. But what was it? John associated the smell with Mary and the stuff she used on her legs… What was it? Noir? Hair? Nair! That was it! Nair!

"Sam," John said as he screwed the cap back on, "There's Nair in here."

"What? That hair thing?"

"Yeah. And Sam?"

"What?"

"Hair loss comes from the radiation that's used to destroy cancer."

"Oh."

Silence was immanent and lasted a few seconds.

"Who put it in there," Sam asked quietly.

But John's mind was faster then Sam's.

"DEAN!"

Epilogue…

Dean got punished for putting Nair in Sam's shampoo bottle. Three months without a car and he had to sit out the next three hunts. Sam had to shave his head bald. But it only lasted for a few weeks, because his chocolate brown hair was back. Dean never lets Sam live it down… as we know… :)
