'I quit'
One afternoon in early May, Patrick Jane walked up to his boss' boss, Dennis Abbott, and quit his job. It was the action least anticipated by his closest coworkers, even less than making his move on Teresa Lisbon. Which had taken a full six months.
He had fought so hard to get a job at the FBI – why stop it now? He was doing so well.
Yet that same afternoon, Agent Lisbon had asked the same boss for a ridiculously long break – six months, to be precise. Which she was granted, immediately.
And that was how eventually the two of them were gone for half a year. Not that people had any delusions about what they could be doing in that time together, even Wiley knew what could possibly be going on with these two.
They had more or less expected that the two wouldn't come back any time soon, so when they showed up exactly six months later (bearing a perfect tan and beaming smiles), the team was shocked but also pleasantly surprised.
Kim Fischer was the first to jump up and make her way over to them.
"Oh my… oh my, Lisbon, look at you! You're so… pregnant!"
All aforementioned woman could do was smile and look down at her swollen belly.
"I am? I hadn't noticed yet!" she joked and Fischer smiled. In fact, everybody did.
Jane came to stand beside Teresa and put his hand on her belly, sporting a smile that seemingly never left as he looked down at her. The look of a man in love… even after six months of permanently being together, no doubt.
Now that the team knew that these two were happy together, they had nothing to worry about anymore.
