"Wait, aren't you going to let me read for the role?"
Bella has to catch herself, pull back that little note of begging in her voice. Get it together, Bella.
The producer barely looks up. "You aren't right for this role. We'll let you know if we need extras. Next!"
He's somehow managed to look at her and not even see her, he's already onto the next girl, but this is the first callback she's booked in months.
She jumps at the door, slamming it shut before the next girl can come in. She saw her in the hallway, basically the blonde mirror image of herself — sultry, with a skirt that's too short and a top that's too tight.
She turns back around, "Mr. Cullen, if you just give me a few minutes of your time, I think-"
He laughs, settling back in his chair. "No one's paying you to think, Bree."
She summons all of her effort to not leap across the room and bash his head into the desk. "It's Bella."
"Whatever," he shrugs. "Look, the casting director made a mistake. I'm looking for a blonde."
Aren't they all. "So...think outside the box. Give five minutes to try something unexpected."
He's paused for a second, and she knows this second is precious. Edward Cullen can make or break your career, and if she screws this up — and there's a good chance that she is doing just that — he'll never see her again.
He tosses his pen on the desk, and folds his hands behind his head, leaning back. "Five minutes," he says, flatly.
Bella smiles. You got this, Bella.
