THOSE TWO
(As narrated by General Carlist Rieekan)
They're at it again.
I'm referring to Captain Solo and Princess Leia. They're having one of their many what can be politely termed arguments. I've heard them now what has to be hundreds of times, or maybe it just seems that way.
This provides hours of entertainment and gossip for the base personnel. Any time you're in a closed environment, and especially ones where you can be killed at any moment, gossip runs wild, and nowhere more than on a military base. I'm glad to see them donating to the cause, but what I really wish both of them would do is admit to themselves that the arguments they're having aren't about what they think they are.
I'm basing this on my own observations. I have Rogue Squadron for information, but to call them unreliable would be putting it lightly.
I've known the Princess since she was a little girl; her father was one of my closest friends. She's always been fiercely achievement oriented and Bail Organa raised her to be both a fighter and a diplomat. She was always serious; it was rare for her to smile without prompting. She's usually a cool, contained young woman - that is, until she's in the presence of Captain Solo.
I don't know much about Captain Solo; I know that he was in the Imperial Navy a number of years back and was dishonorably discharged. I learned that the discharge was due to his unwillingness to kill a Wookiee, his friend Chewbacca. In a military operation, you need people to not question you all the time, lest nothing be accomplished, but I have to say I admired the young man's disobedience in that instance. And it's clear he walked away with good skills as a fighter. He's friendly but tight lipped about himself.
That is, until he and the Princess cross paths. Then, all hells break loose.
At first, it seemed that they attempted to keep their ongoing battles discreet but they've become far more public in their exchanges. Those on base just walk by them; they're just part of the scenery. Another day, another Princess Leia - Captain Solo shouting match.
I stay out of it, mostly for my own sanity. But I have moments when I just want to pull them into my office, slam their heads together, and tell them once and for all to admit to each other what everyone else seems to know: that they're in love with each other. It's obvious to anyone, or at least anyone who's an adequate anthropologist. You don't rise in the military without becoming one.
I've only rarely seen two people so passionate from one another and so well suited. I wonder what it's going to take to make them realize it. I won't join the betting pools on when they're going to have their first kiss/sexual relations/civilized conversation, but they abound.
I just hope it's soon. Rogue Squadron is having way too much fun with this.
