In the end, Severus is left with his fading memories, anguish, and one last visitor before nothingness.

-------------------------------------------------------------

He was dead. And still he suffered.
Bitterly, he thought through a haze of pain and reject and sweet sharp pain-
' Even now- I am dead and gone- yet have done so much for her- for her family, for her beloved son. I have lived in her memory, and still I am spurned- it's all so beautifully tragic.'

The prone form lifted his head and through his misery, and pain and tears smiled bitterly. He stares off into the distance of this misty, nothing of a world and remembers what just happened.

In death, she was as lovely as ever- probably more so, but Snape's eyes are slightly damp, and his memories dulled.
"You're dead Severus."
Ah, so the angel speaks,
"I know."
"… You know Sev, I think I loved you once- when we were children."
There was a sharp stab somewhere close to his heart, and his throat closed,
"Why did you stop?"
She smiled sadly, slowly, and took his hand in hers, "I found someone who made similar choices."

He jerked away from her, angry, humiliated and turned his back before speaking-
"So my years of suffering mean nothing? I lived for you Evans! I protected you son with my life, and acted as a guide when no one else would more than once! I even went against the Dark Lord to try and save you! Does that mean nothing?! Does my love count for nothing?!" His voice cracked in desperation, died, and he swallowed his sobs.

The woman lays a weightless hand on his shoulder and speaks kindly,
"You have my gratitude, Severus. I thank you for everything you've done."
She grants him one last smile before turning away and disappearing into the mist, following the cheers and jeers of the Marauders- untied in death.
"How touching."

Those two words are bitter, sarcastic, and hollow.
The pallid man, alone again- forever this time threw his head back and laughed.
It's all so beautifully tragic.

He is dead, yet he suffers.

Sorry!! This Snape angst just came from no-where! He was my favorite character and he died horribly, alone in a Shack (which, by rights, he should have died in LONG before), with no one but Saint Potter for company! This was spurred on by HP: DH, so SPOILERS!
I really don't care for this pairing, but it had to be done….The first and last SeverusLily that I shall ever write! Well maybe, who knows for sure?
