...
Haru is a lonely kitty.
He is, after all, what he believes humans would refer to as a "stray". The constant worry of survival weighs heavy on his mind leading Haru to have an untrusting nature, and for a long time that was okay. Recently it makes Haru's chest hurt.
Haru reasons that maybe it is because he is older and fit to ask questions a struggling kitten could not. Now Haru even questions why he wants to live, and he thinks that this is not something most cats ask. Though as he has not had a whole lot of interaction with others he is not sure.
However Haru still cannot bring himself to talk to those in his neighborhood, and so he decides he is destined to be alone, just him and his questions that would never be answered.
The idea sticks with him until he meets an abnormally large human that Haru, quite frankly, is terrified of. Haru went out of him way to avoid him, even going so far as to hide in a set of thick bushes though he knows he already been seen.
The human stops and his mouth curls at the corners, and despite the humans hulking size Haru admits the action has somehow made the man seem soft. Gentle even.
"Aren't you a pretty kitty?" the human, Haru guesses is male, asks. Haru is a smart kitty, and though he has a fully functioning vocabulary in his own language his human one is relatively small, yet he recognizes these words as the dark blue kitty has heard them many times in his direction. The man is saying Haru is visually pleasing, and Haru has to say that something about the expression on the humans face makes Haru wonder of this human would be considered "pretty", because Haru likes this one better than all the rest.
"Come here cutie, I won't hurt you." He says in soft tone with a strange hand waving motion. Haru knows from experience that he is being beckoned. He has not decided if he will go. He is feeling an oddly comfortable, more so than he was before the man spoke, but the human is still horribly large, and Haru does not want to be hurt.
Haru seriously doubts he could outrun a human with such large legs.
The male has not moved, nor lunged at Haru like the others, would he continue to just wait for Haru? For how long?
All of his thoughts jump out the window though when Haru catches a whiff of something absolutely delicious and he considers it might be coming from the bag in the creature's hand. If Haru goes will he get some? It has been a while since the cat ate.
Hesitantly, he moves forward, never once taking his sharp eyes off the giant. He does not necessarily want to play nice, but he decides jumping into the bag for the meal may not go over well. Haru tentatively sniffs the hand offered to him before rubbing his face very softly against it.
The individual seems happy about the turn of events if his cooing is anything to say for it. Haru allows the human to run the very tips of fingers between his ears and down his spine, moving his back with them.
People have pet Haru before, because Haru is clearly not above doing a little consorting for some treats, but this human has a very soft wonderful touch. Haru also finds it odd that the human that had lightest touch is the biggest of the bunch.
He lets the petting continue a little longer than normal, forgetting about the amazing scent for a moment.
"Okay kitty I've got to go now…" he murmurs delicately. Haru understands this too, but the concept is just reaffirmed when the delightful fingers stop. Haru moves to glare at the man-did he think this was a free transaction? Where was Haru's food? The audacity to stop without even a treat, what did he take Haru for?
The cat is motionless when he catches the man's gaze up close and realizes how bright green his eyes are. Not even the trees are such a loud green, and he is stunned. Haru isn't amazing at reading human expression, but he feels that there is goodness in there. He's huge and supposed to be intimating, but Haru realizes quickly he's anything but with his gentle fingers and honest eyes.
Haru has this feeling in his gut that he can't name. Maybe it's because Haru doesn't feel a whole lot so anything is new really, but in the end it doesn't really matter because he may not know what this is called, but he knows what it means.
He likes this human.
Haru doesn't know why, because normally he is absolutely enthralled by them, but this one is nice.
The boy returns the kitty's stare for a long pause before something flashes across his facial features. If Haru didn't know better he would think that for that instant they were on the same wavelength. The tall man leans forward and thumbs through the fur on the animal's neck. Haru hears "No collar…" but he doesn't exactly know what that means.
He barely has time to think before he's in a set of strong arms, heading towards god knows where with some random human. Haru realizes he should be more scared than he is.
…..
Haru is new kitty.
He is what, he believes the humans would call domesticatednow.
As soon as Makoto, his human, takes him home he dunks Haru a warm tub of water, and though he expects Haru to claw his eyes out, he does not. He is calm, and from all measures looks completely happy and serene. In fact, Haru resolves quite rapidly that the stillness and clarity that wraps around him when he submerges himself in the water is amazing. If need be he could stay there forever.
His human's big eyes turn from wide to almost closed shut with the hair above them scrunched together, then finally go normal. A sound, low and light, erupts from the human, and his lips turn up again.
"You're a silly little thing aren't you?" he whispers and lets his fingers brush through dark fur.
Haru considers what that sound could be, but he figures it's pointless to try and figure the human out so soon. At least it didn't seem bad. Rather pleasant to the ears actually.
The name that Makoto decides to call Haru, Lancelot, is far less though.
Haru warmed up to Makoto swiftly, but he is less welcoming with his friends. He takes to watching them uneasily from a high place every time they come over with weary trepidation. A brave blonde one tries to climb to get him once, and it ends badly with Haru's claw marks staining his cheeks for weeks after.
"I don't know why he's doing this." Makoto whines. "He was perfectly fine when I got him off the street. Let me pet him, pick him up, bathehim, all without so much as a hiss."
The blonde giggles and pokes his human's nose.
"Haven't you ever heard that cats choose their owners silly? That was him, ya know, choosing you." He says simply, and then adds thoughtfully. "Obviously didn't know we were part of the deal."
At the time Haru's human talk is not good enough for him to understand everything the boy is saying, but after long months watching T.V and hearing Makoto speak, he's gotten a fairly good hold of most things and that stupid boy was kind of right.
Haru had just known; felt in his gut even, that this human was worth wild.
That he is kind and sweet, and the furthest thing from dangerous imaginable and he had been right. His whole being is warm and loving, and to Haru it was like he had the sun hidden in his smile. No, actually, Makoto's whole essence was like the sun.
Haru enjoys it every occasion he gets. From working his way into the covers and having Makoto cuddle him into his chest till the thump of his heart lulls him to sleep, to purposely sitting in his water bowl to make Makoto smile on his bad days.
He knows now that his favorite food, the only one he allows Makoto to feed him, is a fish called mackerel. That humans do their business in a little porcelain bowl and are very weird about being watched while they do it.
He is familiar with their emotions and what it means, even the one where Makoto's eyes get hazy, Haru can smell something animalistic about him, and he won't let Haru into the room at night.
Lust, he remembers, and he knows what people do to each other when it happens. That one had been an accident really, when he first figured out how to change the channel, but then he just got really curious. Cats, he knows feel this too, but it's a lot simpler of an act with them. Stick it in and go, but humans do things with their mouth and hands and it's just confusing. He also knows most like to be in love when they do it, and seeing as how his own human would rather take care of it himself before going out and finding someone, he thinks maybe he is like too.
He knows the sky is blue, and Spartacus is awesome. Knows that there are tiny plastic pools to swim around in and Haru wants one.
Knows that his human is defiantly the prettiest.
Before Haru always wondered how humans held such affection for other species, how they found them "cute" as Haru is often called, but some crisp tan skin, sparkling green eyes, and soft brown hair later he gets it. His human is unbelievably cute-more so than anyone he has ever seen.
Especially when he laughs, as Haru has learned that throaty noise is labeled, he is defiantly the best. Haru wonders if he likes it so much because it means his human is happy. He resolves that Makoto makes Haru feel safe and blissful, so he should feel just as wonderful.
…..
It's been one year since Makoto toke Haru in, and now Haru is a troubled kitty.
Lately, Haru has noticed something is upsetting his human. Why eludes him, but he doesn't like it at all.
His cheerful face has been replaced with watery eyes and yes every expression he makes is cute, but it makes Haru hurt. His human should always always be joyful. Nothing Haru does can take the expression off his human's face and it makes the kitty very anxious.
It all comes to a head one night when Makoto is curled into himself on the floor of his living room, tears falling from his troubled eyes with soft little noises coming out.
Haru moves to him and softly places his paw on Makoto's arm in question. The human looks up into blue caring eyes, and gives a small sad smile.
"Are you worried?" he murmurs softly. Haru just cocks his head and stares in answer, because he can't shout out affirmation like he wants to.
Makoto lightly grasps Haru's dark body and lifts him onto his chest. He buries his face into Haru's fur and squeezes him tight, but Haru makes no move to get away; anything to comfort Makoto after all.
"I-I'm fine." He crys and Haru wants to roll his eyes because clearly he is not.
"It's just that, I've been alone for so long. I know I have Nagisa and everyone, but I really want a boy to love me…in a different sense, and there just aren't that many gay boys at my college. You know?"
Not totally, Haru thinks, but he gets the gist of it.
Makoto wants that thing called love all the shows talk about and he feels lonely because he doesn't have it. The idea is foreign, because all Haru needs is Makoto and mackerel.
The green eyed boy has given Haru a new world, a comfortable amazing life, but Haru can't return the favor because this kind of love is something the animal can't give him. The aching is very real in Haru.
Anger also envelops him because who wouldn't want his Makoto? If Haru was human he would spend his every day loving and treasuring him. He would make sure that his sun was out constantly, that night never came for Makoto. Tears would be something they only ever brought about as a joke.
But he can'tbecause he is a cat.
All he can do is nuzzle his face into Makoto's hair and let the brunette wet his fur with eye water.
….
The next morning, after Makoto cries himself to sleep in his bed with Haru firmly by his side, is very confusing.
Haru wakes to the sound of Makoto's voice heightened to scary levels. A scream, Haru realizes with sleepy trepidation. He leans up slightly up to defend Makoto in some futile attempt, but when he gets a good look around he sees that it's Haru himself that Makoto is watching with wide eyes from the end of the bed.
"W-who are you?" he questions in a high weary tone. Haru cocks his head because isn't it obvious? How many dark cats with blue eyes does Makoto sleep with?
Haru moves to sit up, but he is a lot higher than he normally is and that's weird. So it looks down to see if he's sitting on something when he finds is body is not small and furry, but strangely fleshy…
He is human, Haru is human.
His mind blanks and he looks up to Makoto for confirmation that he in fact a different species. He emits a sound in shock when he sees his precious Makoto backing up with horror on his face. Haru doesn't know what to do, how to prove that he somehow morphed into another being, so he trys to say something. Copying the movements and noises he has heard for the past year only gets him so far, because it's hard to work his new mouth, but finally he gets something out that sound vaguely similar to the name his owner has given him.
"L-Lancelot?" the tall man inquires with disbelief. Haru nods vigorously and gestures to himself frantically. He can't understand what is happening, but he can't let Makoto think he's dangerous either. "No he's a cat! Just get out of here before I call the cops!"
Makoto tries to rush out the door but Haru is up on his new legs before and collapsing to floor just as fast. Then, apparently Makoto can't even be mean to someone he thinks is an intruder.
"Oh no are you hurt?" he runs over and crouches down to aide Haru.
The former cat looks into Makoto's eyes and suddenly he can feel something move from him to Makoto and Haru thinks again that they are on the same page ; that he can just understand him without words. It shocks his human too while Haru shakes his head to answer Makoto's question.
"Not used to legs." Haru tries to say but he knows he'll be lucky if Makoto gets one word with his crumpled and low speech.
His owner just stares deep into Haru's face and Haru has a minute to really look at him in a new light. He knows his human is pretty, but now he feels it when he sees his sparkling jade eyes and pouty lips, feels it in the form of heat all through his body. It's strange but somehow he knows he's looking at Makoto like he used to watch some of the cats on his streets; he's attracted to him.
Then he grasps that it's okay. Now that he is human now, and all those dream about taking care of his Makoto can be real. Haru is elated and maybe it shows on his face because Makoto responds with his own facial expression, but it's one Haru doesn't understand in this context.
Makoto's face is bright red.
"Are you really Lancelot?" he squeaks, and Haru nods eagerly. Makoto looks like he is in deep thought with his furrowed brows, but then he says "Okay then, what's the first thing I said to Lancelot, and tell me one thing only he would know.
Haru sighs because he can barely speak, and he doesn't know if most kitty's would know the answer, but he attempts anyway to get recognition from the boy.
"Aren't you a pretty kitty?" Haru repeats feebly then CONTINUES with "Makoto sings in shower, sounds like "Dark horse"."
Makoto flushes deeper and covers his face, and Haru hopes he got his words across.
"You r-really…"
Later Haru will worry how easy it is to convince Makoto that his cat became a human in the night, but for now he thanks that Makoto trusts him more.
"Okay, Makoto, your cat's talking to you from a naked human body. This is normal, totally normal it-oh my god you're naked!" he rambles and gets onto his legs. "You're naked!" he repeats.
"Yeah, cat, naked, remember?" Haru murmurs and rolls his eyes. Makoto is still for a moment.
"Do you do that all the time in cat form, because I knew you were being sassy!? Where did you even learn that?" Makoto spits out and points his finger at Haru. His face is a mess and he's paniky with shock. Haru can feel that word on his tongue that's he's used a thousand times in his head.
Cute,he thinks and something jumps in his chest.
Then Haru feels a small tremor in his throat and it sound strangely like a laugh, but he didn't know he could make that sound, and he's a bit worried with all the new feelings.
"T.V" he says simply anyway and disregards his concerns because he is human now, this is what it entails right?
"Wait." He stops. "Are you the reason there's paper view...p-porn on my bill?"
"Porn?" Haru asks in wonder because it's a new word.
"Y-you know, shows were people having s-sex together." He stutters out and looks away for a moment in embarrassment. Haru finds he really really likes this look in some weird way that makes the heat come back.
"Oh, yes. Curious." Haru supplies finally realizing where this was going. Makoto emits a high pitched sound and turns around for a minute to conference with himself. Haru hears something about his cat watching porn while he was hard at work, and he then "Who's cat does that?". After he answers himself with " Mine, apparently mine."
Then after a minute or two he turns around, seemingly more determined.
"Okay! Clothes first then we need to figure out what is going on!" Makoto chants, and runs off in a flurry to find something for the boy.
Haru is left to on the floor with nothing to do but to admire his new features; a long toned body with pale flesh. Most of his fur is gone except between his legs and it's around a bigger version of his penis. Haru thinks vaguely that Makoto has one of these too but he puts that thought off for later.
He is mostly focused on how human he is. How much this means, what he can do for his owner now. He is straight up DIZZY with happiness and he wants to know how this happened, but more than that he's just ecstatic that it's real. He will do it right; he will make Makoto love him in that special way and he will give him everything he ever wanted.
Makoto will never cry again, not if Haru has anything to say about it.
