A/N 1: Inspired by the new clips of Word and Deeds that I watched. I suggest you watch them to understand the fic or don't read because it references spoilers. Or you could wait for the episode to air but then I don't if the storyline will fit. This is angst.

House typed in the message: CONFRENCE ROOM. PAGE WHEN THERE. He hit send and waited for her to reply. Earlier when she had said that she would be at the hospital all night, he knew that the comment was directed towards him. She was worried about him and House could easily read it all over her face. He figured why not bug her? It wasn't like he was sleeping.

His pager beeped and he unclipped it from his belt.

The message read: ALREADY THERE. He can't help the grin from forming on his lips. He picked up the phone and dialed the number.

"Cameron," she answers the phone.

"Shouldn't you be watching the patient?" he asks with a hint of snark just to tease her.

"He's sleeping. I have a nurse watching over him at all times." Comes her response as she rolls her eyes.

"That's good to know." The conversation dies out because he had no real plan for this phone call.

"What did Wilson bring you?" She quickly picks up the conversation because she hates the silence between them.

"A tie. He said that'd it make a good impression on the judge." He's holding the object in his hand while he talks to her. "It's really not that great looking but Wilson's trying to make up for his bad behavior."

"Yeah." Now she's the one to run out of topics.

"I apologized to him," he picks up the conversation quickly and stuns her with the admission.

"Wow." It seems to be the only sound she's capable of making at that moment. "How'd that go?" She's curious to what Wilson said and how House is taking the whole rehab program.

"Not bad. He was more surprised than you," he chuckles because he knows that she's been shocked out of her socks.

"I thought that you never apologized," she laughs a little too at the situation and how much she would have paid to have been there.

"Well, you know, it's all apart of the program. They won't let me out until I apologize to a bunch of people." He's making jokes because it's what he knows.

"Do I get one?" The words leave her mouth before she thinks about it. She never meant for him to know that she was hurt by him.

"Yeah, you do. I'm sorry Cameron." For the first time he's serious with her. She deserves an apology just as much as Wilson, Cuddy, and a few other people.

Then there's no sound from her end of the line for a while. House begins to think that she's dropped the phone or left the room. But then he hears her breath into the phone. He knows that she's steadying herself in that moment. She's preparing her shields in that breath.

"Thank you," is her soft reply to his apology.

"I owe you one. But don't expect this to happen again." He's back to joking because it's all too serious and complicated.

"You can't change everything, can you?" She asks him.

"No, you can't." He's referring to himself and things that happened in the past. He's knows that she's thinking the same thing.

"I'll see you tomorrow before you go to court." She's ending the conversation now because she can't handle much more of the angst she's feeling.

"Okay." He hangs up because he's feeling the same way.

She hangs up after the line goes dead. Cameron hangs on to his words and knows that he means it. He was apologizing for not giving her a chance, for the things he's said, and his inability to change. A smile graces her lips because she knows that he'll still be miserable but he'll be a little more forgiving in the future.

A/N 2: I can only wish that they'd have a conversation like this.
