Uracil stood and looked at his handiwork and nodded approvingly. Today was the day that he and Adenine were going to bond. They had planned this for a while now, and it was finally time. Uracil had made sure that his room was as clean as it had ever been, and he even went the extra mile to throw some rose petals on and around the bed to make it smell nice, and some protein that he had helped make with his friends.

This was all perfect for him; really, all Uracil wanted was to do this one special thing with the girl he loved. She may not think that his bedroom with rose petals was perfect, but he hoped so. Everything he did was for Adenine. Even the little box in his pocket was for her. If it was still there. Uracil could not feel it anymore.

Panicked, Uracil's hand dropped to his coat pocket, where it brushed against a velvety surface. He sighed and put his hand on the desk. If he had lost that, he did not what he would do. He had spent all of the money he was saving to go to college on this, and anything less would be a sin to put on Adenine's hand. She was perfect in every way. Uracil doubted he could go another day without knowing that they would spend the rest of their lives together.

Ding Dong

Uracil's head snapped in the direction of the door. A million thoughts and possibilities were running through his head so fast that they were beginning to make him hyperventilate. No, no. Adenine would not say no. Adenine was just as much in love with Uracil as Uracil was in love with her. She would say yes. She would. Uracil took a deep breath, calming himself. He was ready.

He opened up the front door with a huge smile on his face, not only from excitement but from nerves as well. But that smile faded away just as quickly as it had appeared. Adenine was there, yes, and Uracil was more than excited to see her. She looked especially gorgeous today in her Never Shout Never T-shirt and jeans. But the fact that she was there was not the problem. A tall man with dark blonde was standing next to her. Again, that was not a problem. Adenine constantly brought friends over to his house. The problem was that this man's arm was around Adenine's waist.

Uracil stood in shock at what he was seeing. He was so confused and shocked that he blacked out for a few seconds. Next thing he knew, his fist was in the man's eye. Adenine shrieked and pushed Uracil off the man.

"Uacil, stop!" She cried. "Don't hurt him!"

Uracil spun around to look at Adenine. "Don't hurt him? But babe, he had his arm around you!"

"Don't call me babe." Adenine said quietly, almost guiltily.

"What?" Uracil asked. "Sweetheart, I don't understand. Who is this man?"

The man stood up and brushed his hair away from his now black eye. "My name is Cytosine. And I am Adenine's boyfriend."

Uracil stared at the man. Boyfriend? What was he talking about? Adenine only had eyes for him...or so he thought. He looked at Adenine for an explanation. Anything would be better than knowing that the girl he was about to propose to had a secret lover. Maybe this was a prank. Maybe it was boy friend instead of boyfriend.

"I've been seeing him in secret for a while now." Adenine said, shattering Uracil's heart. "And I love him. He asked me to marry him today...and I said yes. So, I'm sorry Uracil. I'm sorry for everything." She slipped her hand into Cytosine's hand and said, "But I just don't love you anymore. I need to go now. I'm sorry." She stood on her tiptoes, pecked his cheek, and walked off without another glance back at him.
