Flutter
He glanced at her face as she changed his bandages. Stern and professional as always, with her face set in an expressionless mask. But sometimes, he though he saw a slight tilt of her lips, a glimmer of that old smile that just made her so...Sakura. The Sakura that he knew and remembered.
It usually came when her eyes were far away, as if she wasn't quite there in the same room as him. Maybe she was in a distant memory. Or thinking about her plans for that afternoon. He often speculated, but he could never tell. It almost bothered him how hard she was to read now. But speculating usually gave him something to do as he waited to drift off, as he inevitably would under her healing chakra.
Only this time, he didn't fall asleep and he stared at her as she removed her hands from his person. She turned and made as if to leave, nodding to his ANBU guard, her shoulders set in a stiff line.
"Stay..." the word was out of his mouth before he could stop it.
His voice was hoarse and scratchy from lack of use. He himself could not remember the last time he had spoken out loud. He watched as Sakura turned slowly, an incredulous expression on her face, before she slipped back to her neutral mask. Still, she made her way over to the single chair in his room and sat, not once glancing in his direction.
He almost hated himself for the display of weakness. Uchihas were never weak a stern voice echoed in his mind. But maybe he was tired of being an Uchiha. For now, he was just Sasuke, and he knew that if she left now, his mind would be free to stray to thoughts that he wasn't ready, might never be ready, to face.
So he was grateful that she stayed, and even more so that she asked no questions. And with that last thought in his mind, and the subtle scent that was so her in the air, he fell into the blissful ignorance and peace that only unconsciousness could bring to someone like him.
