Ok so I decided to write this one shot because I miss Katie and all I see on my tv are main characters and their relationships and Otis sort of gets left behind since she left So I thought it was time to bring her back in this one-shot.

It had almost been a year since I had moved to Denver after what happened with Keeler. I was given the chance at a fresh start and I had taken advantage of it. The only thing missing was Brian. When I met him, it had been purely innocent. But as time went by, it became more serious. The age difference between us did nothing on the feelings that seeped through my heart. I managed to find a job doing what I loved the most and kept a very small circle of friends, mainly from work to make the days seem less painful. The months dragged by and that feeling in my heart never went away. I would talk to Kelly on the phone every few months to see how things were going in Chicago and to my great relief; Brian hadn't dated anyone since I had left. Then, one day when I got back home after a particularly hard day, everything hit me like a ton of brick. I missed Kelly, I missed my new family that was firehouse 51 and most of all, I missed Brian. I dialled Kelly's familiar number and waited for him to pick up.

Hey, it's good to hear your voice. I miss you. "I want to come home Kelly." Have you cleared it with Erin? "No but I want to come home." Ok. Just give me a few days to talk to Erin and I will call you back. "Thanks big brother." Anytime. I hung up the phone and went into a steaming hot shower, hoping it would help alleviate that part of me that was missing. I made myself some diner and had a quiet evening with myself. As promised, a few days later, my phone rang and it was Kelly calling.

"Hey Kelly. Please tell me you have good news." I was at work and I wasn't supposed to answer my phone but this was more important than policies. I do. Erin says that you can arrange a flight back and come back home. "So everything is ok on the Keeler front." Everything was taken care of a while ago but Erin needed to make sure. "I'll book the first flight out of here. Thank you Kelly and one last thing." Anything sis. "Please don't tell Brian, I want to surprise him." Sure, text me with all the details. I could hear the smile in his tone, he was happy that I was coming back too. "I will." I hung up the phone and dropped it back in my pocket. I finish my day as if nothing happened but once I'm changed back into my clothes, I go in search of my boss to deliver him this bit of bad new for him but great for me. I find him in his office and I knock before he makes me come in and sit down.

"What can I do for you Katie?"

"Well, I'd like to give you my resignation, effective immediately."

"You're not serious are you?"

"I'm sorry but I'm going home as soon as I book a flight back to Chicago."

I could see in his eyes that he didn't like the fact that I was leaving but the fact that I told him I was going home made it better. "Well I'm sad to see you go but I'm glad your going home. Best of luck over there." I got up and shook his hand.

"Thank you Marc, it means a lot to me." I smiled at him and left his office. I quickly returned home and browsed flights back to Chicago, the sooner the better. Half an hour later, I pressed the button confirming my flight that was leaving early in the morning, two days from now. I texted Kelly with all the important information and I make a quick sandwich. I enjoyed the alone time for the next day, getting everything ready for my departure. The only thing I needed to take care of was packing because the apartment was in the CPD's name and Erin would take care of that. I finished packing my two suitcases at around ten than night and went to bed. Early next morning, I left by cab towards the airport. During the whole flight, I found myself wondering how my reunion with Brian would be. We touched down at O'Hare at around ten and after going through customs; I walked into the area where families waited for their loved one to arrive to see I would see Kelly anywhere. He had promised that he would come pick me up. When I saw him, he was standing there, hands in his leather jacket pockets, shifting on his feet, waiting. He was still in his work clothes, saying he was still on shift. Once our eyes met, both of us had smiled on our faces and we walked towards each other. Kelly just pulled me in his strong arms, one hand in my hair and the other around my back.

"Welcome home kid." He whispered in my hair.

"You have no idea." He pulled away from me and wrapped an arm around my shoulder and we made our way out of the terminal and to his car.

"You should have told me you were on shift, I could have called Benny to come pick me up." He just looked at me as though I was crazy.

"Are you out of your mind? There's no way I would have left anyone else come pick you up. Capp is filling in as acting lieutenant while I'm here. Everyone will be happy to see you."

"What if they get a call before we get there?" I was suddenly a little nervous to see Brian and how it would all go down.

"Don't worry, when I told Boden you were coming home, he said he'd divert the calls for a few hours."

"How's Brian?" I looked at him as we sat down in his car.

"I know he misses you. Cruz has been trying to get him to go bar hopping with him to find a girl but he never says yes. He'll be happy your back." He patted my leg and we left for 51. Kelly texted Matt so they would know they were on their way to them. Kelly parked his car in front of 51 and we made the short walk towards the open garage doors. Once on the apparatus floor, things were eerily quiet.

"Where is everyone?" He looked at his watch before answering.

"In the common room, it's lunch time." He could probably tell I was nervous because he tightened his grip around my shoulder. "Look who I found." He announced when we walked through the doors. All eyes suddenly were on us, chock evident on their face. Smiles quickly replaced the shocked expressions and everyone stopped eating to come hug me. Welcome home's were thrown in there with some hugs tighter than others. Brian had yet to come see me. He was still standing at the round table, blinking a few times, hoping he wasn't dreaming. Once everyone had gone back to eating, he walked the distance that separated us and placed his hands on my cheek. My smile grew wider as did his and suddenly, his lips were on mine. It was tender; it was passionate and full of love at the same time.

"Surprise." I whispered as our lips parted.

"The best." He wrapped me in a hug and suddenly, his lunch was forgotten and he pulled me towards the bunk area. We laid down on his bunk and he just held me. "I missed you." I snuggled into his side and kissed him.

"I did too. That's why I came home." We spent the rest of shift in each other's arms when he wasn't on a call and once shift was over, we went to grab breakfast before going back to his place. Things quickly escalated and we ended up tangled in the sheets of his bed. I hadn't had an intimate relation since Keeler had forced himself on my and even though I knew Brian would never do anything to me, part of me wasn't ready for this just yet.

"We don't have to do this if you're not ready." He was hovering over me and planted a sweet kiss on my lips. "You're home and we have all the time in the world."

"You're right. I found my way back to your heart and for now, that's enough." I traced circled on his check and he kissed me again.

Brian was right. I had made it back home, to him and to my life and we had all the time in the world to go back to the way things were. He laid back on his pillow and pulled me closer to him. We fell asleep like that, finally back together, where we belonged.

a/n Ok so here is my own version of what would have happened if Katie had come back. I hope you liked it and that you'll leave a review.
