A Fullmetal Alchemist one-shot: Edward Elric/Winry Rockbell

Author's jibberish: Crap. Pure crap. My first attempt. Therefore crap. My spark for FMA was ignited all because of "Mistress Bratty". This goes out to Bratty and Hi-chan.

It was the kind of afternoon that had colors streaking the sky with red, violet and orange. The kind of afternoon that was transitioning into early evening. The kind of afternoon was rather lazy, not too eventful and downright slow. But never boring. By all means, he was not bored.

He was on the balcony, lounging on a patio chair, eyes looking upwards. The sun was descending on her right side, and he laid still. Edward took in breaths, deep breaths, not because he struggled with her weight on him, but because it helped him remember that she was there. The girl was on him, her eyes closed, exhaustion lacing over her like fine silk. Winry sighed, a soft smile on her face, as she nestled her head into his skin, as if trying to delve deeper in his bare chest. Edward remained still, hoping not to wake her. He did, however, cast his eyes down to her, watching her slumber.

It was something about the way her hair fell across her face that was endearing. Or perhaps the little whimpers she made when she was changing positions. Either way, the alchemist did not have the heart to move her. Besides, for once after a long while, he was rather comfortable. It seemed he could only get a decent night's rest when he and Alphonse visit their childhood friend.

Before a mental battle started (again) about the word "friend" and the way he perceived the girl, a blonde lock slipped its way to cover her nose. Her eyebrows furrowed and her nose made these funny twists. To the rescue, Edward gently moved the hair away from her face with his left hand, and proceeded to tuck her hair behind her ear with his right hand. Then he stopped, and waited. He continued by brushing her bangs away from her face with his left hand, feeling the satin strands under his calloused fingertips, and then continued with stroking the crown of her head with his right hand.

Nothing. Compared to his other hand...nothing.

Edward was motionless again as he held his hand in front of him, over them, just...staring. He stared at the artificial knuckles and joints, the fake phalanges, and the synthetic digits that made his hand and arm.

She made it. But, he couldn't feel her.

Before he knew it, a sigh escaped his mouth. It wasn't deeply excruciating, but it was loud enough for her to hear. "What's wrong?" she said, finally opening her eyes.

Edward shook his head, and slowly put his woman-made arm down at his side. "Nothing," he told her.

She looked up at him and studied his eyes, as if trying to read through them. And he knew she could. She could read Alphonse and Edward like a Dr. Seuss book. Winry was fluent in the language of Elric.

Edward felt his eyebrows lift in wonder as Winry moved and kissed his collarbone. Then, she kissed the scar on his chest right where his mechanical automail and skin met, and finished by kissing the tip of his metal shoulder. "You have nothing to worry about when it comes to that," she stated quite plainly.

Edward smirked, but not in any sort of mocking fashion. It was warm and agreeable, if anything, with his soft voice that whispered, "You're right," to her.

Winry rested her head on Edward's chest again, and they said nothing as the sun disappeared over the darkened horizon.

Nothing: Fin

Author's jibberish (again): If you could tell me sites where I could refer to really good info on these characters, do share. I am an FMA virgin. And if you actually like this story, blame Bratty and Hikari Yuuko. I fear what you two would actually do if I didn't write an Ed/Win fic.
