The tears slowly streamed down her face as she dropped to the ground and pulled her knees to her chest. She sighed loudly, and lowered her head to lie on her knees.

Lex was walking around campus, killing time before band, when he noticed her sitting with her back to the music building; her head resting lightly on her knees. Normally this would not have made him stop, but as she suddenly raised her head, his heart almost skipped a beat at her tear stained cheeks. Arguing with himself the whole time, he began to cautiously approach her.

'This isn't fair!' her mind screamed, 'why . . . w-what did she do to deserve this?'

Suddenly she heard a voice cautiously call her name.

"Kalie? Kalie, are you okay?"

The world began to slowly swim into focus from her daydream. Kalie realized to her horror, that it was Lex who had been calling her, and was now standing before her.

'No . . . no! If I have to be so pathetic, couldn't it at least have been in private where he couldn't see me?' her mind was whining.

"Oh, h-hi," she managed to stutter.

Lex sat down beside her and hesitated slightly before quickly putting his arm around her shoulders, pulling her dangerously close. He carefully brushed her hair off of her tear stained cheeks and finished by running his thumb slowly down her incredibly soft face.

"What is it?" he asked, obviously concerned. "Please tell me. I want to help."

Kalie sighed; tears began to stream down her face once again. She had never done anything to deserve such kindness from him.

"Please, Kalie," he pleaded with her.

"I-I can't," she sobbed into his shoulder.

Lex pulled her closer and took her chin in his hand, forcing her to look up at him.

"Please try. It will make you feel better." He smiled wistfully.

Kalie sucked in a deep breath.

"Well . . . "
