AN: This was a piece of English homework, just to explain why I wrote it. I haven't even read the whole play yet but hey, I know it's rubbish!

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters of The Crucible or anything else you recognise!

The courtroom. On one side of the court sit some of the girls who are acting as court officials. Many other people in the court are not present as a break has been called. At the front of the section where the girls are sitting, sits Abigail and Mary Warren. Mary is sewing a poppet and Abigail is watching her with great interest, looking as though a plan was forming in her mind. The other girls are chatting quietly and do not pay attention to Abigail and Mary. The conversation starts in hushed whispers so as to not disturb the silence of the courtroom.

Abigail:Mary.

Mary:Yes Abigail?

Abigail: Who are you making that poppet for?

Mary:Why, I think I may give it to Goody Proctor once it is finished. I am only making it to pass the time that we spend sat here. I thought I might give it to her to try and make up for the fact that I have been disobeying Proctor's orders, just coming here.

(Abigail lowers her voice to just above a whisper in fear of being heard)

Abigail:Excellent. When you give it to her you must make sure there is a needle sticking into its belly.

(Mary, who has been sewing subconsciously throughout the conversation, stops abruptly)

Mary:Whatever for Abby?

Abigail:I have been looking for a way to accuse such a respected and righteous woman for a while. This is perfect.

Mary:Surely you aren't going to accuse Goody Proctor?

Abigail:Of course I am, then John will realise he loves me still. And even if he doesn't, it will be punishment for him for turning me away. For surely she will not deny it, she has never lied in her life. Now you listen to me Mary, at dinner I am going to keel over with sickness and stick a needle in my belly. When it has been taken out I will announce that it was the familiar spirit of Goody Proctor that stuck it there.

Mary:I don't know Abby, Goody Proctor has been really good to me, compared to the others that I have worked for in the past. She really is a good forgiving woman.

Abigail:She is not, she is a gossiping liar and she deserves to die. Now listen here Mary Warren, don't you go getting doubts about this now. You are in this as thick as the rest of us. I am going to stick a needle in me and say it was Goody Proctor tonight so unless you want us all to be found out as liars then I suggest you give Goody Proctor the poppet.

Mary: I don't wish to be found out.

(Abigail smiles gently as her plan begins to fall into place)

Mary:But I also do not wish for Goody Proctor to be accused for witchcraft. And God knows the punishment for lying is not as harsh as the punishment for witchcraft.

(Abigail's smile turns into a frown and her whispers become furious but still quiet)

Abigail:Mary, listen to me. If we get found out as liars then undoubtedly what happened in the woods will be found out too. If that is found out we will get more than a whipping. You know what I can and will do to you if you are the cause of that happening.

(Mary is somewhat frightened)

Mary:Fine Abby, I will put a needle in the poppet, but I will not be involved in accusing Goody Proctor of something which I know for a fact she is innocent of.

Abigail:You better not wimp out of this, Mary Warren.

(Mary resumes her sewing and Abigail returns to looking around the courtroom in silence as the rest of the court resumes their places)

AN: As I said before, I know it's rubbish but please review with any comments/suggestions...Reviews=virtual hugs!!!

Bye for now,
