Jasper's Experience
Jasper could feel the thrill of it. Coursing through his veins, mirroring his own excitement. The cloudy skies didn't deter the excitement as the battle raged on. Jasper watched from his high perch in anticipation as the gray soldiers descended down upon the blue uniformed soldiers. The Confederate flag waved gallantly in the smoke and hazy from the cannon fire.
The roar of the gunfire, the shouts of the men, and the blasts from the cannons only increased the thrill of the blonde man.
He yearned to run down and join his comrades-in-arms. To pick up his rightful place as a Major amongst them, leading them to a victory.
Jasper's muscles tightened, readying himself to fly down to the field. But he was stopped by a gentle hand on his arm, a reminder of where he was. Alice was smiling up at him, her perfect face peering up into his. A brochure was in her hand.
"Jasper, darling…we can go meet the soldiers after this reenactment! And they have a medical tent set up to show how they amputated!" Her high voice was rolling with excitement as she danced around him.
Her enthusiasm was contagious, and Jasper tore his gaze away from the mock battlefield that had seemed so real a moment ago. His eyes met her sparkling amber ones. Of course she was excited to see the amputee tent. She was a frightening little monster.
Grinning, he bent down to whisper in her ear. "If it's the soldiers that excite you…well, just remember. I used to be one too." The smoky look she gave him was enough to postpone their field trip for a few hours. Gettysburg would be around forever, as would they…the amputee tent could wait.
