Her Boys
She wakes up in the mornings and doesn't know who she is anymore. The comforter that once lay flat upon her stomach now swells up like she's smuggling pillows underneath her pajama shirts. Her feet ache and her back is sore and she's so very, very hungry, but the crucial pressure against her bladder urges her to quickly leap out of bed and rush to the master bathroom so she can pee.
Her movements wake him up, and by the time she's finished in the bathroom, he is sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
"Good morning," he smirks blearily at her. She just glowers.
He chuckles as he stands up and stretches, yawning widely; his shoulders roll back and the t-shirt he wore to bed rides up to reveal his thin stomach. Padding over to the bathroom, he smiles at his wife before shutting the door behind him.
She walks over to the full length mirror by the wardrobe and examines her reflection. Pale, freckled shoulders peek out under the straps of a plain gray tank top, which stretches over the significant bump on her stomach. His basketball shorts serve as her pajama bottoms – her regular pants no longer fit. She frowns at the extra weight gathering around her flesh-colored calves and her once-tiny feet…
She doesn't hear him come out of the bathroom. He sneaks up behind her and silently rests his chin on her shoulder, wrapping his arms around her convex middle. He smiles. She leans her cheek against the side of his face and covers his hands with hers. For a minute, all they do is stand still and stare at their reflections.
"I'm hideous," she whispers at last, her reflection's insecure eyes peering deeply into her own. He chuckles.
"Even if that were true, I'd still love you," he says softly, nuzzling into the crook of her neck. She smiles faintly.
"Even if little Charlie Jacob, here, came out an ugly little demon baby?" She asks with a tiny giggle, rubbing her swollen stomach which, in a mere 2 months, would bring forth their little miracle.
He laughs, his breath tickling her skin. "Especially if he's an ugly little demon baby," he assures her, and she smiles at his reflection. He pulls her round so she's facing him, and leans in close, resting his hands against her stomach and his forehead against hers. She closes her eyes at the contact, and feels her love for her husband flowing through her veins.
"Mrs. Howard," he breathes, and Pam smiles. "You are not hideous."
He leans in closer and pulls her into a kiss, running a hand over her stomach while the other moves up to caress her cheek. Pam sighs, unable to contain the love she feels for her husband at the moment and kissing him back.
A few moments later Ryan pulls away; he whispers to her, as if telling a secret: "And you know what? Neither is our child."
Pam bites her lip to hide the huge smile threatening to spread across her face, and glances down at her large tummy.
No matter how horrible a morning she has, Pam knows she will always have her boys to make it all better.
A/N: Okay, sorta AU and rather short, but whatever. I've had this idea for over a year, and now I have good excuse to write it down.
Reviews are not necessary, but they make me smile anyway:)
