Pet Shop Horrors:  Death

"I fail to see the relevance of this detective."  D said, in a little less calm tone of voice than his usual.  "You just can't admit you finally messed up.  I've finally got you Count."  Leon replied triumphantly.

Uniformed officers were sifting through the store at a staggering pace, they crawled along the floor, and canine units scoured the back rooms.  "I do not check a customer's previous history detective, if Mr. Townsend abused an illegal substance before doing business with me, it is not a concern of mine."  "But if he's a habitual drug offender who's found dead of a drug overdose mere hours after visiting your store, it becomes a very serious concern," Leon said, again in a very triumphant voice.  "The coroners report couldn't identify what the drug was, so I finally get to search this place, how do you like that?"  "I've told you several times detective, what you found in Mr. Townsend's blood was venom from a very rare breed of snake.  Though it was primarily a non poisonous breed, we did implore Mr. Townsend not to let it become too cold, it is cold blooded after all."  "And let me guess, if the contract is broken this store can't be held responsible for any of the consequences, I don't buy it," Leon said.  "Where exactly is this snake now?  We didn't find any animals in his apartment."  "Why detective, it is right behind you."  D pointed over Leon's shoulder.  The young detective wheeled around in a frenzy to face a cage hanging from a small hook.  D snickered quietly to himself as Leon ripped the black cloth covering the cage down to the floor.  "That wasn't funny you know."  Leon said, quickly turning back to D to utter the statement, and then back to the cage to view the contents.

The bottom of the wire cage contained nothing but a very elegant and very expensive looking gold necklace.  "Is this another joke D?"  Leon said, not taking his eyes off the necklace.  "Not at all, Mr. Townsend wished for an animal to give to his ex-wife, I suppose he wanted a second chance, which I was only too happy to supply.  He shouldn't have hid it in his freezer however, for it was in blatant disregard of the contract he himself signed."  D produced the contract in question from the sleeve of his cheongsam and flicked it through the air to Leon.  It landed at Leon's feet as he glared at it angrily.

"This place is clean sir," an officer said, addressing Leon.  "We can't find anything suspicious, and all these animals are driving the dogs crazy."   "What was that about 'getting' me detective?"  D said as a smile appeared on his thing and feminine lips.  "Damn!"  Leon said, defeated.  "Alright, let's get out of here.  You got off lucky this time Count."  "Of course I did."  D replied.  Leon chose this time to utter a few choice words and punch the frame of the large double doors on the way out of the small store.  "I'll get you yet." Leon added as he left. "Of course you will."  Leon stormed off in a rage, cursing violently all the way back to his sleek green car.  "Of course you will." D repeated after the doors closed behind the detective.  "Sooner than you think in fact."
