A/N: A glimpse at Melody's younger childhood. (This is the prologue)

"Melody, it's time for your din-"

A woman with an eye-patch approaches Melody's room, which is reminiscent of a cell- concrete floor, bars, and a sterile bed with white sheets and a shiny steel bedstead. Usually, our dear River can be found reading a book, of which she is allowed one at a time. She devours each volume, learning in her tiny prison, escaping mentally, if not physically.

Currently, however, she is not in her room. Her book and belongings have disappeared, and the guard is laying unconscious, slumped against the wall, a large red mark on his cheek. The lady nearly drops the dinner tray and scowls in dismay for a moment, until she realizes that all is not lost. The lady presses the alarm and speaks over the intercom.

"Melody Pond has escaped. Repeat: Melody Pond has escaped."

Melody runs as fast as she can- she doesn't want to kill the Doctor, she can't... She runs for miles, not stopping until she reaches New York City. Unknown to her, however, the Silents know where she is.

Eye-patch lady waits for her subordinates to meet her.

"You," indicating about twenty men armed with laser guns, "will be our back-up."

"You," speaking to a Silent, and softening her tone,"phase two."

"Move out."

"Melody! Oh, dear Melody! Come out, come out, wherever you are!"

Eye-patch lady considers for a moment.

"Open fire!"

Melody runs, but in the wrong direction. Her eyes widen as five bullets strike her in the chest and knock the wind out of her. She collapses, gasping for breath.

"MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!"

A Silent approaches and hypnotizes her again, forcing her to kill the Doctor.

Melody attempts to resist, then forgets what she was resisting as the Silent walks away.
