Mirage wasn't one to waste time. Ever since she was on her own, she had to survive in secrecy. There were other cats in the forest who weren't pleased to have a strange cat snooping around their territory. Everywhere she went she had to be careful, even at her own den by Twolegplace. It wasn't the nicest, being so close to the rowdy twolegs. They could keep you up until moonhigh with their ruckus. However, being there has it's perks. There less of a chance that a Clan cat would find her and more of a chance to find food, even if it was tasteless kittypet food. However, for once, she had been found.

Mirage lay by the river, nonchalantly dipping her paw into the water. It was nearly sunhigh, and in the midst of greenleaf, the river had dried up partly, leaving it shallow. This time of year, she found it easier to catch fish, but also harder to stay hidden from any clan patrols.

Her deep purple eyes caught sight of a silver object in the water and she swiped her paw, flinging a fish out of the water and onto the bank. She grabbed in her jaws and ended it's life. She started to eat it until she heard a rustle in the reeds behind her.

Mirage twitched her ears, pinpointing the sound. The creature was too large to be a rabbit or mouse. Even if it was one, it would be the dumbest piece of prey she'd ever seen. After a few heartbeats she caught scent of her stalker. It was a cat, a clan cat.

"Reveal yourself," She announced, standing up to face the cat.

There was a hiss from the reeds. Soon after a light brown tabby leaped towards her. Mirage flattened her ears and rolled out of the way.

"Your on Riverclan territory, rouge," He declared, his fur bristling.

"Call me what you want, I don't give a mousetail," She replied calmly, making the Riverclan warrior flinch. Before he could respond, she darted around him, and caught him off guard, though he quickly turned around and pounced on her. Mirage squirmed, but ultimately found herself pinned under the strong tabby.

"Not so cocky anymore, huh?" The warrior hissed in her ear. He had planted his paws on her scruff, keeping her from moving anywhere. She let out a hiss in response. The tabby that pinned her was to heavy and strong for her to heave him of and with her lack of fighting skills, it was futile to struggle.

"Giving up so easily?" He sounded almost shocked, though he was one of those "bloodthirsty" warriors who killed without much reason. "Heh, you fight like a kittypet."

Now that took it a bit too far. With one strong movement, Mirage rolled, knocking her attacker onto the river bank. Her fur relaxed as she began walking in the opposite direction.

"Hey! Get back here you preystealer," The warrior ran after her. Mirage only looked back and winked, disappearing into the brush. She saw the Riverclan cat scanning the reeds, confused. It was pointless for him, for she had already escaped.
