How it All Started

-Ezra when he was young-

"Ezra! Stop messing around!" Yelled Ephraim

The 5 year old child was running around the house with his toy spaceship, while his parents were getting ready to broadcast a message of hope to the citizens of Lothal. He was jumping off the chairs and the couch, pretending that the little plastic ship could fly.

"I swear, that kid's gonna hurt himself if he keeps jumping off of the furniture like that." Stated Ezra's father.

"Oh, he'll be fine, he's just a child, that's how they play." said Mira trying to calm down her tense husband.

They were both pretty tense before broadcasting messages and protests against the they set up, the child continued to run around the house like a wild kid. And as Ephraim was just about to press the button to start speaking...

Ezra fell in the hole that led to the broadcasting room. He grabbed his left shin and started bawling

"Ezra, I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to yell." pleaded Ephraim

What he didn't know, was that it wasn't his fault the child fell. But he blamed himself anyway.

"Ephraim it's not your fault, he wasn't watching where he was going and he tripped." said Mira, trying to calm her husband.

"Ezra, Sweety, are you ok?"

He didn't answer his mother's question, instead, he continued to cry. She went to pick up her son but hesitated when he screamed.

"Ezra, Honey, what's wrong?"

After he cried for about five more minutes, he answered.

"My ... leg ... hurts ..." He said between sobs

Ephraim pulled up his son's pant leg and saw that his shin was swelling, fast. Mira carried Ezra to his room and elevated his leg. And later that evening Ephraim went in to the child's room to check his leg.

The swelling had gone down, but the father feared that his son had permanently damaged it, so he went looking for something that his father gave him.

He found it. It looked like a long piece of armor, but it would actually support Ezra's leg so that he could walk. He'd tell Ezra eventually, about what happened and why he can't ever remove it. Hopefully he'll understand.

-the next morning-

Ephraim and Mira went to their son's room to see if he had damaged it at all.

"Alright Ezra, can you get outta bed please?" Asked his mother.

"Ok!" said the young boy, cheerfully.

Although Ezra was confident, when he went to jump off the bed, he landed... for a while.

About a minute after the kid landed his left leg gave out, and he tumbled to the ground.

It scared him, he hadn't expected that. The child was upset with himself.

"Mommy, what's wrong with me?" Pleaded the child.

It broke the two adults' hearts to see their son so scared.

"Ezra, when you fell into the basement, you hurt your leg, permanently." Said the mother gently.

"So." his father started

"You have to wear this." he held up the leg supporter.

"Never take it off son. Ever."

"Ok." replied Ezra, softly.

Ephraim put the support on Ezra's leg and helped his son up. And Ezra started walking like nothing had happened.
