What the hell is that ringing? I dare to crack my dark eyes open for a second. Oh great, I groan internally.

That damn alarm clock. I manage to slam my hand down on it before finally opening my eyes all the way.

I sighed pathetically as I dragged my ass out of bed. I looked out the window as I walked into my bathroom. It was raining today.

How lovely.

I look into the mirror and regret it. My hair was a complete mess. I grabbed the brush lying on the sink and began to comb out my tangled pale golden locks.

I brush my teeth and put on some eyeliner before putting my hair into a neat bun. I threw on a black shirt and simple grey sweat pants. I walk over to my bed and grab my boots, quickly shoving them onto my feet.

I walk down stairs to grab a glass of orange juice when my phone goes off. "Hello?" My voice echoes through the phone.

"Hey, Rita!" Sheska greets me. "Hey, what do you need?" I ask in a bored tone.

"I got the papers! All I need is for you to come down here and sign them!" A grin forms on my face at her words.

"That's great! I'll be down there soon, okay?" My voice had become alert. There was no mistake in the excitement behind it.

"Alright, bye!"

I put the phone back down in its cradle and finish the last of my juice. I put it in the sink before I bolt out the door, grabbing my grey jacket on the way out.

I climb into my dad's old car and sighed heavily. It was getting worn down, I'll have to replace it soon.

A sad feeling settles in my stomach. My parents, Riza and Roy Mustang, had died in a car accident when I was fourteen.

My seventeenth birthday was only two months away.

I stop day dreaming. I start up the car and pull out of the driveway. You're probably wondering what I'm signing papers for.

I have to sign those papers to get into the military.

My parents were in the military. For some reason I feel the right to continue their duties for them. It just felt like something they would've wanted.

I wanted to become a Lieutenant, like my mother was. Then maybe work my way up to Colonel.

But, I didn't want to get too ahead of myself. I laugh quietly at myself. I sounded like a little kid.

When I finally came back to reality I noticed someone sitting on the side of the road. Apparently it looked right their car broke down.

I shook my head as I drove up beside them. What was I doing? This person could rape me or something. I decided I was just being paranoid and rolled down my window.

I realized it was a kid, about my age, with blonde hair and blue eyes. His hair barely went a quarter ways down his back and was pulled into a pony tail. He was wearing a long black coat, a gray shirt, black pants, and boots.

"Hey!" I yelled. His head shot up, his eyes snapping towards mine. "Ya need a ride?" I asked lazily.

He nodded his head and got into the other side of the car. "So, where are you going?" His eyes turned to me. "Central Military Headquarters."

I looked at him with a strange look. "Well, I guess I won't have to make two stops," I said with a smile.

He rose an eyebrow. "You're going there too? Why?" I glanced at him as I saw the huge building come into view. "I'm trying to get a job there. "

"So, what's your name?" I asked curiously as we pulled into the parking lot.

"Edan Elric," he said as we opened our car doors and got out. I held out my hand. "Rita Mustang."

We shook hands and quickly parted ways. I felt like I would see Edan again soon. And I hope so. I could use a friend in this place.
