Confidant
Do not read this story if you have not seen the episode 'Informed Consent'. MASSIVE SPOILER!
I do not own any of the characters mentioned in this story. Fox owns them all, dammit.
After Cuddy had informed House that Ezra Powell had died it was obvious that something inexplicable had happened. Cuddy had asked him if he had anything to do with it and he had come out with,
"If I had, would you really want to know?"
But House being all knowing had already figured out what had happened.
One of his Ducklings had helped him die.
He limped to the Chapel knowing the guilty conscience would be hiding there, praying for forgiveness. But he was somewhat shocked when he saw Allison Cameron weeping on the bench looking at the crucifix on the wall praying for deliverance for her sins.
Allison Cameron was not the religious type, she had been brought up as a Catholic but as soon as she had moved out she had declared herself an atheist. But right now at this point in time she believed in a God and she wanted him to forgive her actions.
House placed a hand on her shoulder in comfort and came out with.
"I'm proud of you."
He then squeezed it and stood for a while with her. He then turned out of the chapel and left her sitting and letting silent tears slide down her cheeks. She prayed to God that what she'd done was the right thing; she hadn't even noticed that House had made physical contact with her. His words had washed over her, but all she could think about were her words to Ezra.
"I'm sorry." She had whispered, but Ezra had looked the happiest man in the world. He was finally getting what he wanted. To die peacefully.
As House walked out from the chapel, he sighed; he rubbed a palm roughly over his face and turned to look at Cameron again.
This was killing her inside. She had gone against all of her morals and done something selfless. Cameron was all about helping the patient, this time was no different, even if it was helping him in a screwed up way.
House hoped that this would make Cameron stronger inside and it would help her to understand that even good doctors do something that helps the patients rather than themselves.
Cameron would grow from this experience and move on, it may take a while but she would get over it and feel her old self again. In times when she was alone Cameron would think about Ezra, but then remember his face as he died. It was a hint of a smile before she had left and ran into the toilet to cry her heart out. He had been happy and she should be happy that she could fulfil his wish.
It's amazing how something beautiful comes out of something sinister.
