Free. As a bird…It's the next best thing to be.

The stone frame of the jaded window seemed like it was sleeping. The tiny, scattered air bubbles embedded each brick stone. But that was before the sun hovered into view. Hedwig, Harry's clever white owl, was sleeping at the base of the bird cage, his face filling out of the wires that surrounded him. A translucent sun beam took over the darkness of the room. One of Hedwig's golden eyes slowly opened to only a mere squint. He shuffled his feathers before he sat upright to stare down at the view before him.

Oh…Home and dry…Like a homing bird I'll fly, as a bird on wings.

Hedwig hopped across the base of his cage, which stood by the window, and pressed his face against the wires in sadness. His brilliant gold eyes glistened in sorrow. No idea came into his mind that a human would understand the deep feeling of soaring into the bright refreshing sky, and taking in the homey warmth of the sun settling into his feathers. When would Harry come home again?

Whatever happened to, the life that we once knew? Can we really live without eachother?

Hedwig twisted his head towards the unused wooden door, there really was no optimism at the pit of his stomach that it would ever open again. Hedwig slowly glanced back to the breath taking view of the fresh morning. And then, he slowly sunk. The side of his face ruffled awkwardly down the wires. The view that he cherished so much left him again. He curled up as much as he could, he tried to make himself small, and he then outstretched his left wing, and sprawled it over his face.

Whatever happened to, the life that we once knew? It always made me feel, so free…

(A/N: The italics in between each paragraph are lyrics from the song 'Free as a Bird' by The Beatles. The story behind it was that a member of The Beatles' widow had a demo that her husband, or John Lennon, never recorded. So the remaining 3 Beatles recorded it, each playing a part in it and also including John's voice from the tape into the song. It's very eerie, yet beautiful.)
