"Franz... What do you think about marriage?"

"...Uh?"

I look up at you and blink a few times at the sudden question; your big blue eyes are fixed curiously upon me and, is it worry that I read there?

"Why do you ask that, all of a sudden?"

You shrug and lean back on the grass, picking at the fine green threads as if they were your thoughts and you could just let them out of your head like that, and I find myself mesmerized by the movement of your fingers.

"It's just that..." A sigh. "Isn't it supposed to be about making your loved one happy?"

This wakes me up from my reverie and I raise my head, meeting your eyes. Are you blushing?

I chuckle then and the colour on your cheeks deepens, your mouth rising in a pout. You're such a child...

"Are you worried about Eugénie?"

I smile softly now and the corners of your mouth relax mirroring my expression, but the flush remains.

"I don't think I love her but... I have to marry her anyway. That's not going to make anyone happy..."

A lost puppy; that's the first thing that comes to mind seeing that expression of yours. I wish I could just kiss you now, and simply show you and let you feel instead of answering with words. I wish there were no marriages to worry about, no limits to be afraid to cross. But you're looking at me expectantly, and so I find my voice. I know I'm going to leave you even more confused.

"It's not necessarily true that marriage is the only way to make that special person happy, Albert."

And I will make my loved one happy. I will make you happy, whatever the cost.
