A/N: For Hogwarts Online Hufflepuff Prompt of the day "Frightened".
War and Other Fears
Lee whistled to himself as he wandered down the stairs of the burrow, having just used the toilet and feeling much refreshed. He however stopped in his buoyant whistling when he past Ginny's room. He would usually move on and go back down to where the Christmas dinner was ending and him and the twins could start a mischievous night, but he heard something he had never heard in the Weasley house.
Ginny was crying.
He would also usually knock on the door and wait to be invited in, but something inside his body told him this was important that she needed to talk to him. So he walked straight in to see Ginny hugging her legs and curled up on the bed in the corner. She looked up at him shocked that he had just walked in, yet she was a nice girl.
"You should never walk in to a lady's room unannounced," she sniffed sweetly trying to dry away her tears. Lee walked gingerly to the bed and sat down starring at Ginny.
"I know I was just worried about you," he said softly. Ginny smiled and looked towards the ground as fresh hot tears rolled down her face.
"I am frightened," she said softly, almost too softly for Lee to hear.
"Frightened of what?" he asked and Ginny sighed and stretched out her legs so her feet were resting against Lee.
"The war," she said. It sounded as if she meant it to sound obvious but at the same time sum up everything that people tried to keep secret.
"Ginny everyone is scared," Lee tried to sooth her.
"Yea but everyone in the family is doing something for it, or knows what is going to happen. No one has told me, no one has prepared me. What if I am unprepared and end up killing someone? Or not as the case may be. What if something happens to my family, or me, or you," she said her shoulders moving fast to keep up with her sobs. Lee automatically grabbed her around the shoulders and pulled her against his body letting her cry against him.
"The problem with the war is when it happens that is when you will know what to do," Lee tried to help but knew it would do nothing. Ginny seemed to calm down however and looked up at Lee.
"I don't want to lose anyone, especially you," Ginny said softly sitting back up and wiping her face.
"You won't lose me," Lee laughed and Ginny returned with a small giggle.
"Can you promise me something?" she asked and Lee put his hand on her face looking into her beautiful blue eyes.
"Anything Ginny," he said.
"When it's all over you will take me on that date you keep promising me?" she asked and Lee smiled as he nodded.
"I promise Ginny," he said softly and pulled Ginny back against him.
