Beloved Conqueror
Birth, life, and death...these are the three main aspects in the cycle of rebirth. For the Avatar, however, the most important of these aspects is not just living, but also giving life to all in need. In order to live, every human must make mistakes and ever conquer something at some point in his or her life. Some may conquer their fears. Others may conquer their authority. It all depends on the fate and the purity of that person's spiritual aura. But for the Avatar, conquering is never easy.
The only thing under the Avatar's possession is the safety and harmony of the world. It may be strange, for when the word, "conquer" is mentioned, it comes to mind of royal kings and emperors forcibly gaining foreign lands and kingdoms. Most would think of the darker aspect in the connotation of the word "conquer", such as the forces of evil blanketing the innocent side or the stronger opponent attaining victory of the smaller or weaker one. But of course, that's not always the case. Some can be for the most beneficial of purposes.
Avatar Aang was such a conquerer, and quite an interesting avatar he is, indeed. Throughout his entire life, he experienced situations beyond his age and his control. Discovering his identity at an early age of twelve, he faced the intentions of warfare and was introduced to the world's sudden fear, helplessness, and hatred towards the Fire Nation. Following his century-old iceberg dream, he has been welcomed into the true enlightenment of what the world has become with the loss of his entire community of Airbender monks-as a result of the Air Nomad Genocide.
Being a soft-hearted, airbender avatar (not to mention the last of his kind), aggressiveness was never his nature. The mere thought of hurting or killing a living thing never crossed his mind. Compassion and peace, innocence and trust...these were his only cultural companions. As a result, he was often caught between two realms of life and death and was lost between choosing the path of protective power or the path of love and happiness.
His every step in attempting to succeed has cost him sacrifices, whether minor or major. He was left with a heavy burden to bear, the weight of the world resting on his shoulders. In the end, he had obliterated the hundred year war, and that, too, sparing the life of the opponent. He had used the power of his pure soul and the strength of his unbendable spirit to attain such a victory.
But even through such intensity of the taunting warfare, he was never alone, for he had found a family and support from the love of his life...Katara, his devoted waterbender. She was the key to his success, and if it wasn't for her, he wouldn't have been the almighty avatar he was to this day. And yet, he is one of the most legendary...yet, he had conquered.
Years later, the great Avatar Aang is seen with his beloved Katara, holding her close to his heart. Even today, he would look deeply into her eyes and say, "I love you, Katara." And Lady Katara would just smile, blushing everytime. "I love you too, Aang." she would say. "Afterall, you always continue to conquer my heart!"
And as the infinite eternities continue to pass by, he always will be...
