I don't own NCIS or any of the characters..just a huge fan!!
The following is just a quick one shot told by Sam. Sam happens to be the daughter of Gibbs' second wife.
It was years ago, yet, it seems just like yesterday. That night he came to me, was the day he watched her die. That was the day that he would forever feel the warmth of her blood on his face. That was the day he didn't get to say good-bye. He loved her, not sexually, it was more brotherly love. He knew she wasn't his type, beautiful as she was, he just couldn't love her like that.
That night he arrived, he was absolutely soaked to the bone. Shivering like a small puppy forgotten on the door step. Thankfully, McGee had called me earlier to let me know what had happened. Gibbs, not surprisingly, was in overdrive, pacing back and forth trying to find answers to everybody's questions. He'd last been seen heading for another coffee. Abby was a little shook up but fine, McGee the same, although he was Abby's protection detail, and Abby was not happy about it. Ducky had made his way back to headquarters and he and Gerald sought the comfort of Autopsy. But not Tony, he didn't know what to do. Time had stopped around him and he was left with a void. Sure, he'd seen his share of dead bodies, but this was different…this was Kate, his partner….his confidant….his friend.
When you or someone you love, loses someone they care for, they ask themselves 'what do I do or say?' As much as I wanted to say something. I couldn't. My voice was silent. I just remember reaching for his hands and walking him to the bedroom. I quickly walked into the bathroom to start the shower. As I walked back, I watched him standing in the darkness staring off into nothingness. The steam from the shower began to pour out of the bathroom and fill the room. As the heat touched his body, he began to tremble. I led him to the shower and helped him to stand in the stream of the hot water. The instant the warmth of the water touched him, his mind and body jolted back to life. Fully clothed, though, completely wet, I felt his arms wrap around me. His intense blue eyes staring back at me. And then in a voice so faint, he said them, those five little words. 'Sam, don't ever leave me.' to which I replied 'Never.'
Its been 3 years since that night…those eyes still capture me…those arms still hold me…and those words. They still haunt me.
