I Could Have Loved Her

I could have loved her.

She has beauty and brains.

A dangerous combination.

Then again, everything concerning me is dangerous.

Or it used to be.

I could have loved her.

If I were still the me that I was 48 hours ago, I might have loved her.

But things changed.

I changed.

I could have loved her.

But I learned something.

I learned the meaning of true sacrifice.

The Ultimate Sacrifice.

Something neither she nor I have the courage to do.

I could have loved her.

But things changed.

I changed.

The Ultimate Sacrifice was made.

Thank goodness I was there to reverse it.

I could have loved her.

I might have loved her.

But I do not.

I cannot.

I could have loved her.

But I don't love her.

I love another.

She goes by the name of Short.

Holly Short.

I could have loved her.

But I fell in love with my best friend.

Loved it? Hated it? This is my first poem, and I'm sorry it doesn't rhyme. I just thought it sounded poetic. Please review!!
