Open Green Eyes

A short little NejiSakura drabble.

A Hyuuga never shows his weakness. Especially if that weakness happened to be a beautiful and sensitive kunoichi.

He couldn't figure out what it was about her that captivated him.

She embodied love and loss. Perfection and frailty. The emerald eyes, which he had grown so fond of, portrayed so much power and resolve. But he knew that one gentle touch could send her over, exposing her vulnerability.

He had never known someone who was both as physically powerful and as emotionally sensitive as she was. This, he believed, was one of the many admirable qualities about her. He knew of her frustrations when she felt that her teammates had left her behind. But he also knew that frustration was the very source of her achievements.

Autumn brings exposure, chasing away the warmth that protects her. As the trees bare themselves, defenseless to the winds, she tries to resist the change. Tries to avoid the inevitable.

He watched intently as she stood in the clearing, eyes roaming around the empty field. The way her delicate shoulders tensed when she felt another presence.

The way her body relaxed when she recognized it. And the way her beautiful eyes, so full of determination, looked straight at him. The tiniest lift of her lips.

"Neji-san."

He looked into her eyes and saw an image of strength and ambition. As the silent confrontation continued, neither of them noticed the stirring breeze.

"Sakura."

The fallen leaves began to dance.
