It was high noon and blistering hot, it was as if the sun had cast a spell on living things to feel particularly lazy. Or maybe it was just Amu who felt that way. After all, it would have been a lie to say that Amu slept well. She closed her eyes trying to remember why but her mind was blank.
"And then next up is the news in your area..." the radio chattered from the house across the street. Amu yawned. The summer breeze that slipped from behind the curtains of the open window felt nice. "A man who lost most of his blood was discovered at 4:10 am near the Tokiwana Station..."
Amu quickly slipped in her uniform before slamming the window shut.
"Where are you going?" her mother greeted as Amu walked in the kitchen.
"School," she answered as she swung the bag around her shoulders and grabbed cold toast and stuffed it in her lunchbox.
"Eh? Didn't you say you didn't feel like going?"
"I changed my mind," she answered casually but abruptly stopped. "Wait a moment. You didn't say something like the black plaque like last time-"
"No I just said a flu. Wear a mask or something. However do be careful about that plaque. We'll have to stay away from rats this summer," the last part seemed more like a note to self than to Amu. She nodded anyways and said goodbye.
Amu arrived just in time for lunch. Everyone was spread out and was given a ten minute lecture before allowed to go to her classroom. She walked slowly to her desk and pulled out the squashed bread and put it in her mouth. Tasteless like always. She took out a bottle of pomergrade juice. Or more accurately Pomerania +grapes+ tomatoes+blood. She was looking forward to the last ingredient.
"Did you hear about the news-?"
"About that man who died-?"
"Of course it was a vampire!" Amu twitched. A vampire? How did death from blood loss because some fanatic stabbed someone turn to death because of a vampire attack? They were suppose to be extinct to humans. Gone forever. (Not.)
"So what would you do if a vampire suddenly appeared?" one of her classmates giggled.
"Well of course I would protect the beautiful Saaya!" one of the infatuated boys volunteered. A rather short girl with fancy curls gave a small "humph" toward the boy's direction but he didn't seem dissatisfied.
"Don't they hate it when you throw them garlic?"
Who likes having smelly garlic thrown at you?
"Or if you stab them with a cross!"
Stabbing them with anything will work just fine...wouldn't a knife work better?
"It definitely grosses me out!"
"I hope they all died horrible deaths, especially after what they did to us!" There was a brief silence. They had gotten tired of the topic.
"I wonder if Ikuto will be at school today," one of the girls said.
"Nah, he's still recovering. I wonder how he manages to get such good grades?" Saaya wondered. Amu stood up and stretched. Ikuto. There was something extremely unpleasant about the name. Who was he again?
Suddenly she remembered. Amu glanced back at the group, they were still squealing about him.
"I wonder what would happen if the school-no-the world knew you were a vampire? That they were still out there?"
Damn. She had forgotten. The secret was out.
I'm back..?
