Chapter One: Prism
A/N: This is one I've been working on for a while it's gone through several revisions but I've finally decided to publish it I Hope you enjoy! don't forget to review

The sun shone white burning away the dark clouds a brilliant hue of rainbow light bathing the otherwise red sky.
Underneath it stood two figures one a man obscured by shadows a gold pendant hung from his neck.
The other a girl radiating light from a single point a crystal prism hanging from a necklace.
The man laughed his voice echoed unnaturally as if two people were speaking in unison.
He gestured dramatically wiping a strand of white hair from his face his cape flapping in the wind.
"An amusing light show, but if you think that will stop me you are sorely mistaken..."
He looked at his hand with reserved amusement.
Gesturing with a golden staff he set a card face down and ended his turn.
"-Draw your last card cause on my next turn you will lose this duel, and your soul will be banished to the shadow realm forever!"
His eye glew red with wicked pleasure under his golden monocle his mouth cracked open a fit of mad laughter roaring through the air.

Yoko woke with a jolt.
Twirling a strand of her hair with her finger for comfort.
She rubbed her eyes taking in her surroundings through the haze.
She was in her room she tried to remember what she had been dreaming about but it faded like fog in the wind.
She was snapped out of her thoughts by a knock on her door.
"Yoko sweetie it's time to get up!"
Her mother opened the door flipping on the light.
"Good morning."
She smiled.
"Morning mom."
Her mom was a beautiful woman with long black hair and hazel eyes.
Her mom left closing the door as Yoko went to change into her school clothes.
She looked at herself in the mirror, she thought she was decently pretty for a fourteen-year-old though she was short at 5'1 and underdeveloped for her age.
She wasn't good with boys she had only been on one date with an older boy she had a crush on named Ryuji.
It turned out to just be a cruel prank by some older girls, after that she focused solely on her studies.
She had long spiky brown hair which she tied in a ponytail, pale skin, and amber eyes.
She wore the standard Duel Academy uniform with a white jacket as she hadn't been assigned a dorm yet.
She reached onto her nightstand grabbing a crystal necklace she put it on and tucked it into her shirt heading downstairs to eat.
"Good morning papa."
Her father was at the oven flipping pancakes without missing a beat he turned to her while still cooking.
"Morning."
He smoothly flipped the pancakes onto plates sliding them to the table he flipped a syrup bottle which landed bottom first in the middle of the table.
Yoko's mom walked over kissing him on the cheek.
"You know dear if you had put as much work into dueling as you do cooking you could've been King of games."
He shrugged.
"Those days are behind me, my research and my family are all I need, Let's chow down!"
He sat down pouring some syrup on his pancakes he slid the bottle to Yoko.
After breakfast, her father put his lab coat on giving Yoko a hug he wished her luck at her new school.
"I'm gonna get a head start on some paperwork I'll see you back at the lab."
Giving her mom a kiss he excused himself.
Her father was a researcher looking into the mysterious power contained within Duel Monster cards what he called Duel Spirits he'd always expected her to follow in his footsteps.
Her mother was also a researcher after working together for ten years they became close friends and eventually fell in love.
But she had no interest in research she didn't know what she wanted to do.
Her mom put on her lab coat and motioned for her to follow as they went outside locking the door behind them they got into the car.
"I hope you make lots of friends at Duel Academy make sure you write to me every day."
Yoko nodded and smiled.
"Of course mom."
She stepped out of the car giving her mom one last hug before she drove away.
Yoko Yuki never wanted to be a duelist, it was not by choice or through means that she became one, rather some strange mix of heredity and destiny led her to that point, standing at the Domino City monorail line waiting for the next shuttle to Academy Island.
Yoko waited by the platform a wave of terror and excitement rushed over her, part of her wanted to take off and go home, but she knew her dad would be disappointed and she couldn't bear to see him upset.
She was so adrift in thought that she didn't notice the figure approaching until he was standing right next to her she jumped bumping the boy causing her to drop her bag.
"A-Ano."
She looked up and saw a boy with short wavy bright green hair swept to cover the left side of his face.
He looked to be two years older than her about sixteen.
He had gold eyes and wore black cargo pants and a white hoodie.
The boy waved her off with a smile.
"I'm Niko Tenma nice to meet you."
She blushed.
"I'm Yoko."
He grabbed her bag and handed it to her.
"Are you also enrolling at the Duel Academy?"
She nodded.
"Do you know which class you're gonna be in?"
"Raviel Blue... I hope."
She looked dejected.
He smiled reassuringly examing her.
"You have the skill I can tell."
"Really."
He nodded.
"I look forward to learning with you."
He adjusted his collar a grimace marring his face for a split second before returning to his cheery visage.
"Best of luck."
He walked past her as she turned to see another boy roughly the same age walk up to him.
He had long dark green hair tied in a ponytail swept to cover the right side of his face and silver eyes.
He wore black cargo pants and a white hoodie.
They looked like twins a thought which was confirmed when they hugged each other.
"Hello, Ryou."
"Niko."
The elder boy was the complete opposite with a cold brusque attitude.
He gave her a once-over before dismissing her as his attention returned to Niko.
"Did you remember your gear."
Niko sighed.
"Yes, brother I'm not five anymore."
Ryou nodded coolly.
"Very well."
He cleared his throat setting a duffel bag on the ground he unzipped it and began to go through its contents as other students arrived at the monorail.
The crowd began chatting amongst themselves as they waited for the train to arrive.
The chatter ceased as a boy walked up.
He had layered spiky brown hair covering part of his face and onyx eyes.
He wore grey ripped jeans, black pilot boots, a sleeveless grey punk rock t-shirt with a red horned skull on it and a black leather jacket.
Around his neck, he wore a black spiked choker.
He had a cool confidence about him as two men in suits carried his bag for him.
Yoko looked around wondering what all the fuss was about.
She turned to a girl about a year younger than her with blue-white hair tied in twintails and green eyes.
She wore a generic schoolgirl uniform and glasses.
"Excuse me, can you tell me who that boy is?"
The girl's eyes widened.
"You mean you don't know?"
Yoko shook her head.
"That's Gavin Princeton his dad is a five-time champion and headmaster of the academy."
Yoko's eyes widened.
"Wow, sorry to bother you, I'm Yoko Yuki."
The girl smiled.
"Sarah Truesdale."
They shook hands.
The boy walked up to the platform from the road putting one leg onto it, he leaned forward, staring at the crowd a self-satisfied smirk marred his face.
He snapped his finger and the men walked over one putting a duel disk on his arm the other opened a steel briefcase revealing a series of decks.
He grabbed one turning his attention back to the crowd.
"You're all probably wondering why the train hasn't arrived yet,"
He chuckled smugly.
"The answer is simple I've paid the conductor to delay until I'm finished here."
He ignored the protests of the crowd raising a hand for silence.
"If you want to make it in time for the entrance exam you'll do as I say,"
He looked through the crowd seemingly searching for something.
"-You with the duffel bag,"
He pointed to Ryou who turned seemingly annoyed.
"-I choose you, duel me if you give me a suitable challenge I'll give the conductor the green light."
Ryou shook his head.
"You are not worthy."
He zipped up his bag tossing it over his shoulder.
Niko reached into his pocket grabbing his deck he went to volunteer.
He was interrupted when a rainbow light emanated from Yoko's crystal time freezing momentarily but only she saw it.
She heard a voice in her head both masculine and feminine and her eyes rolled back as she faded from consciousness.
A red eye symbol appeared on her forehead as she grew slightly in size and changed posture a confident smirk marred her face.
A moment later Yoko's hand raised drawing surprised looks from the crowd of people as her eyes burned with a confidence and attitude not her own.
Gavin sneered.
"I don't face girls."
He turned to the audience to look for another opponent when Sarah belted out.
"What are you scared!?"
He turned to her and she shrunk.
"Me scared don't make me laugh,"
He rubbed his temples annoyedly messing up his hair.
"-Fine, I'll face you but you'll wish I hadn't."
He snapped his fingers and the men walked over to Yoko the crowd parting as they handed her a duel disk.
She strapped it to her arm.
He pressed a couple of buttons on his duel disk and the blue light which it was previously emitting turned red.
"Nifty huh these are the new Model X Duel Disks they haven't even been released to the public yet."
He toyed with a couple more settings and the duel disks spread a green cybernetic field which scanned the area before receding.
"They've got all kinds of new features but this is by in large one of my favorites."
He entered a sequence and the duel disks red light flashed emitting a ringing sound as he dropped to one knee.
Yoko grimaced in pain as a series of sharp shocks went through her body.
He entered another sequence and the ringing stopped.
"Simulated reality it sends signals directly to your brain convincing you that what you see, hear, and feel is real but when the duel ends everything returns to normal."
"Once the duel begins only the two of us will be able to see what we summon but I like it that way.
"Everything appears to be in order, let's begin."
He smirked placing his deck in the duel disk the cards were sucked in as it extended forming a dragonesque wing shape.
Yoko followed suit placing her regular cards in her bag she reached into her sleeve pulling out a different deck placing her cards within.
Her eyes glew with red and green light.
He stepped into the road making a come at me motion Yoko hopped down and the crowd circled around them.
"Ladies first."
Yoko smirked.
"You're gonna regret underestimating me."
Drawing five cards she looked at her hand.
"I summon Ahtep Spirit Of Hope in face-up attack position,"
The clouds crackled with lightning as a beautiful Egyptian woman in a golden garb flipped down drawing a bow.
"-Using her effect from my hand I also summon Seqen Spirit Of Despair in face-up attack position."
The ground shattered fire shooting upward as a handsome Egyptian man in a golden kilt flipped up drawing a khopesh.
"I set one card face down and end my turn."
Gavin looked unimpressed.
"My turn, I draw, I summon Black Bud Dragon in attack mode,"
A large blue egg rose from the ground hatching to reveal a black baby dragon with a blue rosebud on it's back.
It was completely black except for its teeth and eyes which were white.
"-I set two cards face down from my hand I activate the spell card Needle Fangs!"
The Dragons small teeth grew longer, thinner, and sharper peeking out from its mouth.
"-Black Bud Dragon attack her monster Black Bud Bite!"
The dragon lunged baring its teeth at Ahtep.
Yoko smirked.
"Not so fast I activate the trap card Ritual Altar!"
A golden staircase leading up to a bloody gold slab rose from the ground.
"A life for a life I sacrifice Seqen to destroy your dragon and we each take damage correlating to our monster's respective attack points."
A clawed specter rose from the Slab grabbing their monsters it ripped them in half, a fountain of blood raining on the participants.
Gavin scoffed.
"I end my turn."
Yoko drew.
"I summon Patra Spirit Of Lust in face-up attack position."
A statuesque Egyptian woman devoid of any clothes except for leather strips covering her bosom and groin rose from the ground gracefully.
"From my hand, I activate Ahtep's Tears bringing Seqen back from the graveyard."
Ahtep cried into her hands a crystal forming, a white light emanated from it and Seqen rose from the ground, the crystal shattering.
"Finally, from my hand, I activate Sacrificial Unity sacrificing Patra I fuse Ahtep and Seqen to summon the fusion monster Ka'ahmose Last King Of Thebes!"
The two cards embraced around Patra stabbing her in the lower gut and upper back with daggers she turned into blood hitting the ground.
The blood swirled upward surrounding and obscuring Ahtep and Seqen when it fell in their place was a new being.
A tall Egyptian man with a bladed bow wearing ornate black armor and an Anubis helm stood before them.
His eyes were cold a blood red aura surrounded him and his long black hair poked out from beneath his helmet.
"Due to the effect of Sacrificial Unity he can attack the same turn he is summoned, Ka'ahmose attack him directly Bladebow Blast!"
The monster swung his bladed bow spinning it he drew an arrow and notched it firing he shot and sliced him simultaneously.
Yoko was surprised when Gavin simply cracked a smile.
"Nice move but not nice enough to defeat me I activate my face down Necrotic Evolution!"
A zombified Black Bud dragon rose from the ground intercepting the attack it lunged at Gavin taking a chunk out of his shoulder and began rapidly healing.
A red glow surrounding it, its bud began to bloom as it grew in size and spread its wings letting out a high pitched shriek like a thousand eels.
The inside of its wings turned blue as did its tail and teeth it's eyes glowing blue.
"Introducing the new and improved Dark Rose Dragon!"
He let out a maniacal laugh his dragon creepily echoing him.
"I activate my second face-down Retaliatory Attack since you attacked me directly it allows me to attack during your turn."
He motioned with his hand.
"Now destroy her monster Dark Feast!"
The dragon lunged at her monster ripping it in half with its jaw.
Yoko grimaced her eyes darkened.
"I end my turn."
Gavin smirked.
"My turn I draw, I summon Black Bud Dragon,"
A second dragon rose from the ground egg hatching around it.
"-And from my hand, I activate Black Death Ritual I sacrifice both my monsters and five-hundred of my life points to summon the legendary Black Death Dragon!"
The Black Bud Dragon ran over, taking another chunk from his shoulder it swallowed it then began to eat itself.
All that was left was its stomach containing the flesh within.
The Dark Rose Dragon picked the stomach up in its mouth and held it there as a red energy began to surround it, it let out a roar and began to evolve.
Tripling in size the stomach transmuted into a red orb which replaced its mouth its eyes glowing red the inside of its wings and its tail also turning red.
The rose on it's back growing in size and turning red with the thorns growing like spider legs.
It released a terrifying roar psychicly which shook all who heard it.
"Beautiful isn't it, don't worry it can't attack this turn so go ahead search in vain for a way to win I end my turn."
Yoko paled gritting her teeth.
'What should I do?'
She drew for her turn and her eyes widened a smirk lighting her face.
'Excellent!'
"I summon Hanum Spirit Of Chastity!"
A regal Egyptian man covered head to toe in bandages except for one eye descended gracefully from the sky.
"From my hand, I play The Pharaoh's Sacrifice Bringing Patra back from the graveyard,"
Patra rose next to Hanum standing back to back.
"-Then from my hand, I activate The King Reborn by paying a thousand life points, I banish every card in both our graveyards and fusion summon The Mighty Khufu!"
Patra and Hanum fused together forming an orb of golden light from the ground rose a beautiful man covered from his feet to his waist in bandages and leather strips.
He wore golden armor on his torso with wings and a helmet that resembled Ra.
He had long golden blonde hair braided with a golden feather and golden eyes.
In his right hand, he held a golden shield, In his left hand, he held a golden Khopesh.
He radiated mystical power an ethereal glow coming from his skin.
Gavin sneered.
"Am I supposed to be impressed no matter how strong the monster Black Death's effect will render them null and void."
Yoko smirked.
"From my hand, I activate Draw Of Destiny banishing two cards from my deck I draw three then shuffle."
"Then I activate The Pharaoh's True Name!"
"By guessing the top card of my deck I can summon one level eight or higher Pharaoh Fusion monster and I guess that the card I draw is Winged Kuriboh!"
She drew the top card from her deck seemingly fearless of being wrong and was correct.
"I summon Exodus The Scattered Pharaoh!"
The ground shook and lightning crackled as a pentagram appeared in the air a single clawed hand popped out heralding a greater power.
A figure reminiscent of Exodia with less armor, a wicked smile, long black hair, and glowing green eyes appeared.
Gavin smirked.
"Quantity won't beat me."
"I'm not done from my hand I activate Soul Shuffle!"
"Soul Shuffle?"
She nodded.
"Using Soul Shuffle I sacrifice Khufu, Exodus, and all but one of my life points to summon the strongest monster in my deck The Nameless Pharaoh!"
A golden pyramid appeared around Khufu's neck and his eyes rolled back.
Lightning began to crackle as a spellbinding circle rose from the ground glowing white.
Standing on it was a man he wore leather shoes, pants, and a black sleeveless shirt.
He had spiky blonde, red, and purple hair and blank white eyes you couldn't focus on his face no matter how much you tried it would blur and distort.
Like a vessel without a soul.
"I activate the effect of The Nameless Pharaoh destroying your Black Death Dragon!"
The man outstretched his hand and the dragon exploded into a million pieces which turned into purple smoke.
"What, how!?"
"Now I attack you directly Nameless Pharaoh Mind Crush Attack!"
Gavin fell to his knees his eyes rolling back as a red eye symbol appeared on his head.
"I win."
She removed her deck from the duel disk tossing it to the ground at his feet, she returned her deck to her sleeve where it vanished.
"Now to teach you some humility let's make sure reality mirrors fiction!"
A rainbow light flooded from her prism as time froze once again.
Her eyes glew red and green and she outstretched her hand mirroring the pharaoh.
"Hikari No Mindcrush!"
His mind shattered into a million pieces.
"Learn some humility as you pick up the pieces of your shattered mind."
Yoko smirked darkly as their injuries healed and the virtual world crumbled around them
The rainbow light shined again and she snapped out of her trance.
'W-Where am I?'
Yoko looked around and noticed she was standing across from the boy who had a duel disk in his hand.
'Did I win?'
The crowd cheered as one of the men put Gavin's arm around his neck helping him stand while another made a call.
A few minutes later a helicopter dropped a ladder and they boarded flying away.
Yoko shakily stepped up on the platform trying to collect herself.
The girl Sarah ran over.
"That was amazing you really showed him."
Yoko nodded absently trying to recollect.
'Did I?'
Niko walked over putting a hand on her shoulder.
"You didn't have to do that I-."
Yoko smiled cutting him off abruptly.
"It's fine, thank you."
He nodded smiling.
A few minutes later the train arrived and they all boarded hoping they would make it in time for the entrance exam.
As they neared their destination out their windows they saw it Duel Academy.
Of course, this was a new facility as the old one had been completely wiped out by a volcanic eruption caused by an earthquake.
A Kaiba Corp. excavation team had excavated the island and rebuilt the facility on top of the ruins of the old.
And renamed the dorms after the sacred beasts which had inhabited it.
The top dorm was Raviel Blue, followed by the mid dorm Hamon Yellow, And the bottom dorm Uria Red.
Luckily nobody was killed in the eruption though some of the staff suffered injuries and had been forced to step down.
Now safety measures were put in place to ensure a second calamity didn't happen.
They stepped off the train and were greeted by the vice principal Lyman Banner.
He stepped forward and greeted Sarah and Yoko.
"Hello I'm Professor Lyman I led the dorm your father's attended pleasure to meet you."
He bowed.
Yoko smiled.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Banner, my dad told me about you."
She shook his hand.
"Well follow me the Exam Hall is just ahead."
He began walking towards a tall blue and white spherical building.
They followed him smiling and chatting.
Unbeknownst to them in the distance, a man watched them from atop a building a red scarf flowing in the wind.

Needle Fangs: Equip only to a Dragon-type monster it gains 500 ATK for every monster your opponent controls.
Ritual Altar: Sacrifice one monster from each players side of the field you take your respective monsters attack as damage.
**** Patra Spirit Of Lust 1500 ATK 1300 DEF Effect: Gains 500 extra ATK points when facing a male monster loses 500 when facing a female monster.
Ahtep's Tears: Bring Seqen back from the graveyard.
Sacrificial Unity: Sacrifice a monster to summon a fusion monster it can attack the turn it is summoned.
****** Ka'ahmose Last King Of Thebes 2500 ATK 2400 DEF Effect: If this monster destroys a monster in ATK mode deal that monsters DEF as direct damage, if he destroys a monster in DEF mode deal it's ATK as damage.
Necrotic Evolution: When your opponent declares an attack and you have a first form monster in your graveyard with a corresponding evolution in your hand, cancel the attack, take a third of the evolved monsters ATK as damage, and summon it in face-up ATK position.
****** Dark Rose Dragon 1600 ATK 1500 DEF Effect: Gains 1000 Extra ATK and DEF if summoned via Necrotic Evolution.
Retaliatory Attack: If your opponent attacks you, you can attack during that turn phase.
Black Death Ritual: Sacrifice one Black Bud Dragon and one Dark Rose Dragon plus 1000 LP to summon Black Death Dragon.
******** Black Death Dragon 2400 ATK 2300 DEF Effect: Gains 1000 Extra ATK and DEF when attacking or being attacked by a stronger monster.
**** Hanum Spirit Of Chastity 1300 ATK 1500 DEF Effect: Gains 500 extra DEF points when facing a female monster loses 500 when facing a male monster.
The Pharaoh's Sacrifice: If a Pharaoh monster is destroyed in battle bring a Pharaoh fusion material back from the graveyard.
The King Reborn: Pay 1000 LP to banish every monster on both sides graveyards and fusion summon an eight-star monster with two materials instead of three.
******** Khufu First Born Of Ra 2900 ATK 2800 DEF Effect: Can be fed LP to increase ATK and DEF
Draw Of Destiny: Banish two cards from your deck draw three then shuffle.
The Pharaoh's True Name: Guess the top card of your deck if correct summon one level eight or higher Pharaoh Fusion except for The Nameless Pharaoh.
******** Exodus The Scattered Pharaoh 2500 ATK 2300 DEF Effect: If this card remains on the field in face-up ATK position for five turns you win.
Soul Shuffle: Sacrifice three Six Star or two Eight Star Pharaoh monster(s) plus all but one of your LP's to summon The Nameless Pharaoh.
********** The Nameless Pharaoh 5000 ATK 5000 DEF Effect: Immune to spells, traps, and effects, Can destroy and banish any monster outside of battle regardless of spells, traps, and effects one use per duel.
