These will be all based off of phrases/what ifs/AUs that come to my mind at random. I may continue some of them later as a separate story.
Sorry if any of the characters end up being OOC throughout this. I find that I'm not good with that.
If the Death Notes had fallen into different hands, L might not have died.
"No."
Matt's mouth gaped open, and even Near blinked a few times. Ryuk chuckled at these actions, while Rem just stared at Mello from her spot behind Near. They had L's real name, thanks to Near, but now Mello had rejected the pursuit of killing L. Did he really still respect L after all this time?
"Mello, I gave up half my lifespan for this. Just because I had extra lifespan given to me by Gelous, doesn't mean that I have lots to spare." Near had went back to playing with his toys, but was less interested in them than before. It wasn't just because of Mello's refusal, but because ever since he had gotten the Shinigami eyes, everything seemed less interesting. Red tint got mighty boring and annoying after a while.
Snapping out of his daze, Matt grabbed Mello by the shoulders and started shaking the older teen.
"L is the enemy Mello! He can't see that this is what the world should be like. You know that very well."
Mello pushed Matt away and stalked out of the room. He still believed that they could bring L over to their side, and he was determined to do it, even if he had to reveal that he was Kira. Matt chased after Mello, calling out his name.
Ryuk chuckled once again, having seen Near take out his rarely used Death Note. The silver haired boy flipped to a fresh page, and took a pencil from out behind his ear.
"If you can't win the game, cheat a little." He muttered before looking up at Ryuk. "Ryuk, would you be willing to write down Mello's name? He seems not to be giving you much entertainment lately. " Near then specified the cause of death, so it would be less suspicious.
Ryuk grinned and took out his Death Note. "You're one devious kid, aren't you?" As Ryuk wrote down Mello's name, Near wrote down both L and Matt's names. They would only get in the way.
"I've been thinking of doing this ever since I found out that Mello and Matt were working together as Kira. They aren't fit to be the leaders of this world." Near grinned, knowing who he would give Mello and Matt's Death Note to.
Light Yagami would make a perfect Kira.
In the end, Near is the evil one, and L still dies. Shame.
How does Near know of Light? I imagine that for some reason Light was working with L and they both showed up at Wammy's House one day, which led to them discovering L's name.
