Ferb jumped when Phineas suddenly grabbed his arm. "Ferbmister, look! It's those things it's those things!"
Ferb glanced over to see Phineas pointing at a couple of kiddie rides over by the arcade.
Before Ferb could say anything, Phineas whirled around to face their mother. "Mom, Mom, Mom, can we do 'em? Can we can we?"
"Oh come on, those games are the most boring things ever." Candace said.
"Candace," Linda said in her 'let your brothers be the age they are' voice. "Sure you can, Phineas." Linda said, turning back to him and Ferb and handing them each a quarter.
Phineas lit up. "Cummon, Ferbmister! These are the best!"
Ferb remembered riding such rides before, but they were mainly summed up with 'rocking back and forth' and 'slowness.' He wasn't sure what Phineas thought was so great about them.
Phineas dragged him over to one of the rocket rides, and Ferb climbed in with his quarter as Phineas took the other one.
As soon as Ferb put his quarter in, his theories were confirmed: these rides were no different than the last time he'd ridden in one.
But when he glanced over at Phineas, the boy was looking straight ahead. "Oh no, Ferbmister! It's a giant robot! He's gonna attack Earth! Come on, we have to stop him!"
Ferb raised an eyebrow and looked where Phineas was looking, but he saw no robot.
Phineas seemed to notice he wasn't getting the picture, because he glanced over. "What, you don't see it? It's huge!"
Ferb looked back towards where Phineas had been looking and still saw nothing.
"It's giant and blue with green eyes and a big red frown!" Phineas exclaimed. "And it's about to attack! How can you not see it?!"
Then, before Ferb's eyes, the robot appeared. The world around him disappeared, and suddenly he was in a rocket up in outer space, Earth's last line of defense from the dreaded robot Phineas had just pointed out.
Phineas grinned when he saw Ferb looking at the robot, and grabbed the controls. "Cummon, Ferbmister! Everyone's counting on us!"
Ferb grabbed his own controls as he started smiling, and he and Phineas swept towards the robot, both firing their strongest attacks and blowing the robot to smithereens. The Earth was saved, and Ferb could hear the cheers of the people on the planet below.
How had he never noticed how fun these rides were?
He and Phineas flew back towards each other and high-fived.
"Well losers, did you enjoy your rocking back and forth and slowness?" came Candace's voice.
Outer space vanished, and the two were outside the mall in rides that no longer felt like they were for little kids.
"Candace, leave them be." Linda said, in a more serious warning voice than before.
"What are you talking about, Candace?" Ferb asked. "We didn't rock back and forth, we fought a giant robot and saved the Earth."
"You did what?!" Candace asked, unsure if her brothers were telling the truth or not (you could never tell with Phineas and Ferb). "Mom, give me a quarter!"
Linda sighed and handed one over, and Candace ran up to the ride and put the quarter in, hitting the button.
"What— what are you talking about?!" Candace burst out. "This is just like every other ride I ever rode as a kid. There's no robot."
"Well of course not, Candy." Phineas said. "We already beat him!"
"Oh, did my brave astronauts save us all?"
"We sure did, mom! Do we get extra dessert because we saved the Earth?"
"Maybe I can work out another scoop of ice cream."
"What? No fair!" Candace complained.
Phineas grinned at his step-brother. "You hear that, Ferbmister? Another whole scoop!"
Ferb had heard, and he nodded to show such.
They should save the world more often.
