This was written for a project in my Intro to Poetry class - yes, I have resorted to using Star Trek in my college projects, so sue me. Our assignment was to write a sonnet in the English or Italian style, and I chose the English - and, taking inspiration from a sonnet called "Shakespearean Sonnet," wrote this little trinket. Enjoy!

A starship legendary for its name,
A crew of seven, heroes for all time.
The hope and courage of a captain's fame,
The logic of a Vulcan's stoic mind.
The raw emotion of a doctor's heart,
The engineer from Scotland's heathered vales.
The xenolinguist, talent worlds apart,
Who heard the haunting song of humpback whales.
A sword turned deadly in the graceful hand
Of he who flew the finest in the fleet.
An ensign proud of Russian motherland,
Who made the lucky seven's bond complete.
A legacy that lives forevermore:
To boldly go where none have gone before.
