The Christmas Shoes

"Of all the bloody days I chose to do my Holiday shopping, it had to be today" a tall, blond headed, 30 year old man mubled to him self as he waited in line to purchase his Christmas gifts. It was Christmas Eve and Draco Malfoy was due at his parents for dinner in an hour and by the looks of the line, he was going to be late.

He noticed a small boy in front of him. He had auburn curly hair, freckles and big blue eyes. He was dressed in clothes that were too big for him. His brown pants were ripped at the bottom, his black boots were falling apart , and the wool jacket he had on wouldn't close due to a broken zipper.

He also noticed this boy must not care to take baths due to the fact that he had a smudge of dirt on his nose. It reminded him of Weasley and wondered if this child was his spawn.

The young boy started pacing back and forth waiting to buy his purchase, which was a pair of red and gold shoes. When it came for the boys turn, the boy placed the shoes on the counter and he couln't believe what the boy said next.

"Sir, I wanna buy these shoe's for my momma, please. It's Christmas Eve and these shoe's are just her size. Could you hurry Sir, Daddy said theres not much time, you see she been sick for quite a while and Iknow these shoe's will make her smile. I want her to look bueatiful , if momma meets Jesus tonight"

Draco was shocked. A little boy, having to go through losing his mum at such a young age. It saddened Draco to watch a child go through this.

He watched the little boy take a sac out of his jacket, and emptied out over 50 knuts. It took him so long to count them out.

By the time he finished, the cashier had a frown on his face.

"I'm sorry, young man, but you don't have enough" he said sadly to the boy.

The boy quickly searched through all his pockes for any spare change he may have missed.

He turned and looked at Draco, tears in his eyes and said:

"Momma always made Christmas good at our house, most years she just did without, tell me Sir, what am I gonna do, somehow I have to buy her theses Christmas shoes."

He had to help this child out. He cared for his mother so very much. Draco gave the cashier the balance due.

The boy's face lit up and he gave Draco a tight hug.

"Thank You, Sir! Momma's gonna look so great" he yelled to me as he ran out the door.

Now he finally understood what the true meaning of Christmas was. It wasn't about presents. It's about family, love and most important, life.

The next morning, Draco opened the Daily Prophit to find a heartbreaking article:

War Hero Hermione Granger- Weasley Loses her Battle to Cancer

Thats all he needed to read.

Even though Hermione ended up marrying Ron, he knew she still loved him and always would.

Sure, Ron was the boys Daddy, but between him and Hermione, he would always be the boy's father.
