Jane stood on the tree branch with Tarzan as he yelled. She smiled thinking about the recent days. Tarzan finished and turned to face her. "Jane."
"Huh?" She sounded as she came out of her thoughts. "Did you say something, Tarzan?"
"No. Just your name. Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, Love. Really. I was just thinking."
"About what?"
"Oh. Nothing special. Just about the recent days since I came here. I'm happy I stayed here."
"Tarzan happy Jane stay too. What was that mouth to mouth thing we did back there on the beach? It's not that I didn't like it, I loved it, but I wasn't sure what it was."
"Oh! Uh, well, that is called kissing. It's part of what we humans do when we uh... mate. That's the best way I can put it for you to understand."
"You said it was part of mating. There's more?" He asked trying to comprehend the information.
"Yes. A lot more. But I think we should wait. Do you remember what I told you two days ago about men giving women rings and women to men rings?"
"A little. Yes. Why?"
"That's called a wedding. Marriage. When us humans mate, we make it official by getting married and having a wedding. It's what we do when we find the one we love with all our hearts."
Now understanding her meaning, he speaks. "Jane want to marry Tarzan."
"In a word, yes. I know it sounds silly given we live in the jungle of Africa, but we are human and I want to make it official. It shows that you are mine and I am yours. Forever. That's why we wear the rings we give each other. It lets other people know that we're taken. Mated." She corrected herself remembering he didn't know the meaning of the phrase 'being taken'. "It lets them know we are mated."
"When do we make it? This wedding?"
"Can we tonight?"
"If Jane wishes. Yes."
"Then tonight. I'll wear my best dress and you can wear your father's suit. Just for the occasion."
"Then we better hurry. It's getting dark now."
Jane nodded. "Yes. We better. And then that tree house you showed me earlier, I want to fix it up and use it as our house. And Daddy and I can store our things there. Plus, your parents have some things for you in there as well."
"Fix tree house tomorrow. Wedding tonight."
"My thoughts exactly. Now lets go change and get married. I want you to be my husband and I want to be your wife."
Tarzan smiled in agreement and left to the Porters' old campsite to change.
