Cristina was tired. She couldn't wait to go home. The conference was nonstop lectures on the newest medical procedures in cardio and trauma and that didn't include the three nights of networking and social hours. Thank God Owen was with her. Having a husband who was Chief of Surgery had its advantages. He could coordinate his schedule to coincide with hers.
"Cristina?" a voice called out to her. It was a voice she hadn't heard from in five years. She slowly turned around to see Preston Burke walking towards her. "How have you been? I saw that your last clinical trial was very successful."
"What?" She thought to herself but politely said "I am fine, thank you, and yes, I was very pleased with the results." Why is he talking to me like I was never left at the altar? What does he want?
"I have been following your career and would like to talk to you about an attending position that is open in my department. The board will follow my recommendation since I am the chief of cardio. How about dinner tonight so we can discuss this?"
Cristina replied firmly "No, thank you. I am quite happy in Seattle."
Burke broke in arrogantly. "Surely you aren't going to let our past hold back your future! What does Seattle Grace have that I can't offer you? Money, a highly ranked cardio center and a chance to be taught by me?
As an arm wrapped around her waist, Cristina heard another voice respond.
"Me. I'm Dr. Owen Hunt, Chief of Surgery. And I am Cristina's husband."
