It's amazing what a single night can do. Nothing had changed, yet everything looked different. Especially her.
Four years turned her into an entirely different person on the outside, but inside, she was still Pan. Strong, courageous, stubborn, now absolutely beautiful Pan.
Last time they had seen each other for more than a few days she was a self-conscious 16 year old having a hard time in high school. Then Trunks looked away for what felt like just a moment and suddenly she's a 20 year old holding her head high. Living away from college changed her. She was more outgoing, independent and not afraid to deal with her own problems. Videl and Gohan were great parents, but they coddled their daughter.
She apparently had her fill of heartbreaks, something that Trunks suddenly resented for reasons unknown to him. But they made her stronger, as it had with him.
He sighed and looked at his clock, it was very late, but sleep wouldn't come. Nothing had changed.
Pan rubbed her eyes in frustration. It was late and she wanted to sleep, but she had something on her mind. Someone, rather.
His tan skin was lightly marred by freckles under bright blue eyes, something he hated but she secretly loved. His complexion, freckles and all, fit beautifully with his eyes.
Pan had always found Trunks attractive (he was after all, women reminded him all the time) even when she was younger and looked up to him only as a best friend and brother. When she got older, she developed an innocent crush on him, not that she would ever say anything.
But now, it was different. Why now?
It wasn't the light-hearted, butterflies in the stomach crush. It was mind racing, heart aching confusion for her. He was just her best friend...right?
How could one night change so much, when nothing had actually changed between them?
She drifted off to sleep, still thinking of his blue eyes, freckles and now irresistible smile.
Everything had changed.
