Never Ending
He stood on a high cliff, with a beautiful view on the ocean, stretching itself almost above the whole planet. But the Doctor had no eyes for that. He was looking above him to the universe.
The stars, the planets, galaxies, the space in between. And all the beings, some highly advanced, some who lived completely on their own, not knowing what was really around them.
There were so many things even the Doctor knew nothing about, even in his very long life.
Of course he still had much time left, time to explore, learn, teach and help. This was a wonderful thought, yet it didn´t make him happy. He was thinking of all what he had lost.
Rose, Donna, Gallifrey. And Amy and Rory.
All this had come to an end.
I hate endings.
With a sigh he pushed this thoughts away.
The universe. It was something fascinating, something which width was infinite.
It was point of the universe was getting further away from the others.
The Doctor knew what the price for this infinity was. It was a theory widely known as the Big Freeze.
In a very, very long time everything would be so much apart, that it would freeze. And eventually everything would die and it would end. Forever.
I hate endings.
Even though there still was so much time left, he simply couldn´t cope with it.
It shouldn´t just end. Billions of years of evolution and inventions, so much pain and happiness and all would just… vanish? No one would remember, because no one was left. What was it even for? No, it couldn´t just end.
There was another theory known as the Big Bounce. In this theory the amount of what the humans on earth knew as Dark Matter would outweigh the amount of Dark Energy, meaning the force of gravity would succeed against the power of expansion. And that would eventually lead to a contract, a crunch. The temperature would rise, there would be huge black holes which would melt together. In the end, the resulting black hole which contained all matter, would swallow everything, including itself.
And then were would be another Big Bang. Everything would start anew.
The Doctor smiled. This was a much better thought. An endless circle.
Everything, just no end.
Sadly, science said that the Big Freeze was going to happen.
At least if no one did anything about it.
He closed his eyes and listened to the heartbeat of the universe. He could hear it so clear in the last time.
I won´t let it happen.
He opened his eyes again and was sure of his decision. Better the Big Bounce soon, than the Big Freeze in a very distant future.
And the Doctor would be the one to ensure that there always would be a new beginning.
And never, ever an end. Because I hate endings.
With a smile he turned around, walking back to his TARDIS.
Before he closed the door he looked back.
"I won´t let you die. Trust me I´m the Doctor."
And he could hear it so clear- the heartbeat of the universe.
Drum-drum.
Drum-drum.
