Baby Dog
Jackie was at the sink doing the dishes.
"Baby dog." Karlie said as she pointed outside the sliding glass door.
"Dolly's outside?" Jackie asked perplexed, she didn't think she'd let Dolly out.
"No, baby dog." Karlie insisted.
Jackie looked outside and sure enough, Skittles, their elderly neighbor's dog had come to visit them again, Skittles was always escaping, and for whatever reason she'd come visit the Stokes' house, which the kids loved.
In truth Skittles wasn't a puppy, just a small breed of dog but it made sense as to why Karlie thought of her as a baby.
Usually Jackie or Nick would take Skittles home but Nick wasn't home from the lab yet, and Jill had run some errands so instead of taking Skittles home Jackie let her in and the kids squealed with delight.
Jackie then called her owner.
"Hi Sharon, this is Jackie Stokes from across the street, Skittles in over here visiting and I'd bring her home but I'm by myself with the kids and the babies are sleeping would it be alright if Skittles stays over here for a while and when Nick comes home one of us will bring her home?"
"Oh, I'm sorry Jackie, that dog is an escape artist."
"That's quite alright, my kids are thrilled." Jackie said with a laugh.
"Thanks, and yes Skittles can visit you guys for a while."
"Alright, thanks, we'll see you in a bit." Jackie told her before she hung up.
"Skittles stay here?" Johnna asked.
"Until Daddy comes home, and then Skittles has to go home." Jackie answered with a smile.
"No, her stay with us." Johnna argued.
"She can't sweetie, her owner would miss her."
Johnna frowned and then went and got back to playing with the dog.
About a half hour later Nick came home.
"Hi guys." He greeted the kids with a smile.
"Go away dada." Johnna told him as she went and gently started pushing his legs as if she was trying to get him out the door.
Before long her siblings had joined in her plight.
Jackie was in the kitchen making a bottle and overheard what was going on.
It's nice to see you too he mumbled as he went out into the kitchen.
"Jacks, do you mind telling me why Skittles is in our living room and why the kids want me to leave?" He asked.
"Sorry Nicky, that's my fault, they want you to leave because I told them that once you came home Skittles would have to go back home and they don't want her to leave. Skittles is here because she escaped again, I told Sharon that one of us would bring him home when you got home." She explained.
Nick laughed, that made sense.
"I'll give the kids about ten more minutes to play with her and then I'll run her home." Jackie told him.
When the ten minutes were up Jackie told the kids to say goodbye to Skittles and then she scooped her up and took her across the street where she lived.
The kids couldn't wait until the next time Skittles came to visit them!
