He hated to admit it but, he was in love. It wasn't infatuation. It wasn't lust. No. Cloud had to admit that he was completely, madly, deeply in love with Aeris. The way her eyes twinkled merrily, always filled with laughter. The way her chestnut bangs framed her face. The way her sweet, full lips would curve up into a smile almost instantly. He had always dreamed of what it would be like to kiss those lips, ever since he first laid eyes on her.

"Hey Cloud! Are you alright?"

He froze at the sound of a soft, feminine voice calling out to him. He knew that voice. He would recognise it anywhere. He turned slowly, meeting the curious Cetra's gaze, swallowing nervously as she tilted her head to the side.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"I just needed to think," he replied quietly, returning his gaze to the window. Aeris stepped forward to stand next to him.

"About what?" she continued. Cloud didn't answer with anything more than a slow shake of his head. They stood for a moment in silence until Aeris let out a long, bored sigh. "Sorry," she said almost instantly but Cloud just shook his head again.

"Don't worry about it," he replied. She smiled and yawned again, covering her mouth with her hand.

"I'm off to bed," she said after a moment. "Goodnight Cloud."

He nodded briefly. "Goodnight Aerith."

After he heard her footsteps disappearing up the steps, he sighed. It seemed that for now, he would just have to keep dreaming of kissing those lips. Until he finally got the courage to do it for real.
