Title: Madder than You

Characters: Barty Crouch Jr. & Mad-Eye Moody

Word Count: 600

Barty Crouch Junior, messy long hair and eyes that shone of complete and utter madness with clothes just barely holding onto his thin body, ran through the woods. He could still hear the haunting screaming of prisoners and his hair stood up on his body; even if the dementors were long behind him the effects of their presence could not be shaken of.

He had been an intelligent boy. There was no question about it. And the intelligent boy turned into an intelligent man. Who unfortunately got captured and thrown in Azkaban. He never believed that he would get out, he had since long lost hope that he would one day breath fresh air and stretch out his body the way that running allowed him to do. He had never been much of a runner but for some reason he craved the movement when he was stuck inside the chilly cell that had him quivering at night and constantly waking up screaming as the nightmares tortured him.

And then that changed. One day he was just out. He was free to roam the streets, free to do whatever he pleased. But most importantly he was free to do what the Dark Lord wanted him to and he was going to do it if it was the last thing he did.

Attacking Mad-Eye Moody wasn't something he looked forward to. After all the stories that he had heard about the man he had gained a healthy respect for the crazy one-eyed, one-legged fool who refused to acknowledge that his time was over. It wasn't for nothing that his nickname included the word mad. He was a good fighter and he stopped at nothing to win the battle, to take the prisoner into custody and he would use any means necessary in whatever situation he found himself in. A man like that had to think of himself as unbeatable. Barty couldn't imagine that Mad-Eye was better than anyone else in that aspect. After having put so many of his friends in prison even Moody must have gotten a bit too sure of himself. Maybe to the point where he didn't think that anyone would ever attack him. Barty wasn't sure of that but he liked to think that was the case.

He stopped at the familiar house. His hands shook, he licked his lip with his tongue and shakily walked towards the bins that stood just outside. If anything, Barty had the upper hand, because no one and especially not Mad-Eye would expect anyone to be stupid enough to attack him.

The door was violently opened and Mad-Eye walked out. "Who's there?"

"Expelliarmus." The wand flew out of Mad-Eyes hand and into Barty's outstretched one. He violently pushed Moody to the ground, a groan was heard and then he turned around. Too easy.

Mad-Eye glared at him though the dark, his eye moved back and forth between Barty's hand and then vanished into the back of his skull. "That was very stupid. You may have my wand but this is far from over. As soon as I have finished this you'll be back at your cell in Azkaban where you belong." Mad-Eye laughed. "What even made you think that you could pull this off?"

Barty laughed too. A shrill sound that echoed through the streets as he leaned down and pressed his wand into Mad-Eyes cheek. "Because I'm madder than you." A bright light. Mad-Eye fell unconscious to the floor and Barty nodded to himself as he dragged the man into his house. "Thank Merlin for that because otherwise this probably wouldn't have worked."
