Good morning...
"Mom! It's doing it again!"
Joshua pushed back his computer chair and yelled down the hall. His mother replied without bothering to come in, "I told you, it's a glitch. Now stop calling me everytime this happens, please."
Joshua rolled his eyes, shook his head and looked back at his screen. For about a month now, every day at the same time, 9:30, he recieved the same message. Nothing else. At first he tried to send an answer, but nothing happened. Now he just clicked the message screen off whenever it showed up, but it still gave him the creeps. He didn't even know who it was sending him the message, because there was no contact information listed.
"Ok, sure, nevermind then."
He clicked off the screen and paused. An info tab popped up with an address listing.
"Um, Mom?"
"What is it?"
Joshua stopped. Maybe it was better if he didn't tell her. She'd most likely confiscate his computer for trying to track down other people illegally. He looked at the address. 71 Raven Drive. Just a few blocks away. He thought about it for a minute then copied the address down and slipped it in his pocket.
"Mom, I'm going out now!"
"Ok."
He grabbed his jacket and raced out the door and down the street.
Joshua wasn't running because he was dying of curiousity, or because he knew his mom expected him back soon. He just wanted to get there and back as soon as possible so he could get back to his computer game. Taking the turns almost before he reached them, he arrived at the address in less than 20 minutes. Rechecking the note, he punched the doorbell (he always did that, but not only the doorbell) and stepped away from the door expecting someone to open it.
Joshua waited in front of that door for about a half hour before he began to worry.
Breaking and entering is illegal and had he thought about it more he probably wouldn't have. But he didn't think about it more. He didn't even really think about it at all. Instead he grabbed the doorknob (which was unlocked), opened the door, and went up the stairs. There was a blue electronic light coming from under the door on the second floor, which was how he knew. After a brief pause at the top of the stairs he pushed the door open.
"Hello?"
He only made it a few steps into the room before he stopped.
The computer in front of him was more like a network of computers all linked together in a massive structure of glowing technology. Long, snaky pipes and wires curled from under the bottom screen and attached to something, probably the unseen person's game controller, on the other side of the large corduroy chair in front of the computer desk.
"Oh, there you are. Hey, it's me, the 9:30 kid a couple blocks down. I was wondering..."
As he spoke Joshua walked over to the computer and looked at the screen. Oddly they all displayed extremely complex programs.
"Wow!"
Joshua looked at the person sitting next to him, about to ask how someone small enough to hide behind a corduroy chair could be so advanced. Then he froze.
