-Chapter One-
"I don't want to go!" I loudly whined, fingers digging into the doorframe as I desperately tried to claw my way back into the safety of my home. Already I could feel my arms start to shake, quickly growing tired of being held up for the past twenty minutes.
"Come on, going out to this party is far better than sitting at home and watching anime" Drake grounded his teeth, his arms wrapped tightly around my legs as he continued to pull. I clenched my jaw, continuing in trying to drag my body forward as the sound of giggling reached my ears. "When the fuck did you become so strong?" the brunet frowned, now having to dig his feet into the welcome mat the minute his feet started to slide around.
"The minute I decided I didn't want to go to this fucking party!" I snapped, whirling my head around to peer back at my friend with a glare. Only to be met with one of his own as he started to tug harder at my legs, sending a small jolt of pain through my body. I only tightened my grip on the doorframe in response.
"You know, you guys could help me?!" Drake growled, casting a glance back towards the four individuals that were standing near the bottom of the porch steps. All quietly laughing at the sight before them as they huddled up into a group, watching.
"Nah, I think you got it, dude" Jack smirked, waving a dismissive hand at the brunet before both he and his twin burst out into a fit of laughter which only caused Drake's growl to grow in volume.
"Shit!" I yelped, finally feeling my fingers give out as they slipped from the doorframe and my jaw made harsh contact with the porch. I moaned at the feeling of my bones rattling before watching as the older man leaned over me and pulled the front door to mine and Sora's home fully shut. "Ow" I moaned the minute my friend started to drag me down the porch steps, happily humming to himself as he ignored me and the laughing four. I peered up at them all with a pleading look before finally making eye contact with my twin. "Sora, come on, you have to help me out here!"
"Let me think" Sora hummed in mock thought, a wide smile on his lips as he looked up and tapped his index finger against his chin. "I see nothing wrong with this" he said after a moment of silence.
"Why do you hate me so much?!" I wailed, throwing my arm up and over my eyes as I turned my head to the side. Lips lightly twitching upwards at the snickers I got in response to my overdramatic reaction.
"Aw, I don't hate you, sis. It's because I love you that I'm allowing our friends to forcefully drag you from our home" Sora gave an innocent smile that caused me to snort. "Now, let's go party!" he happily threw his arms into the air and rushed ahead of the group with Summer not too far behind.
"Sometimes I wonder if you two are really twins" Zach hummed as the rest of us follow, Drake still dragging me behind him as I sprawled my arms out and stared up at the sky.
"Sometimes I wonder if you and Jack are twins, but you don't see me voicing it" I responded, blue eyes peering up to clash with the raven-haired man's green ones. "This is going to be a terrible night" I grumbled after a moment of silence, crossing my arms over my chest and pouting as I ignored the feeling of the harsh ground scraping against my skin. Along with the feeling of twigs and leaves getting tangled up in my hair, that's going to be hell to get out later tonight.
"Come on, going to this party won't be so bad" Zach hummed. "You'll get to meet new and exciting people and make new friends, maybe even come out of that shell of yours a bit more."
"No thank you, I like it here in my shell" I stuck my tongue out in disgust at the thought of interacting with others. "In my shell, no one can judge me for being a weeaboo or insult my taste in music."
"What are you talking about? I insult your taste in music daily, that shell of yours ain't going to protect you from that" Drake chuckled as he glanced back at me, his smile widening the minute I stuck my tongue out at him. Once again it had grown silent after that, the three of us quietly listening to our three other companions loudly laughing as they lead the group. All of them also loudly complaining about our slowness and pondering aloud about the party.
"You know, I've been wondering, but exactly who is throwing this big ass party?" I furrowed my brows in thought.
"Oh, I think it was…it was…to be quite honest, I'm not sure" Devin frowned. "The invitations didn't really say who was throwing the party, just gave the date, time, and address. Nothing else—no, wait, I think it also had some weird insignia on the back of it" my frown deepened as he said this, I closed my eyes in thought for a moment.
-Flashback-
"Sora, mail's here" Skylar called out as she reentered the house, boredly flipping through the mail in her hand while making her way into the kitchen. Anything that looked like bills was quickly put aside for Cloud to deal with, anything that looked like junk mail was tossed into the trashcan, leaving only a magazine and a red envelope.
"Is my magazine here yet?!" Sora shouted from his room, quickly followed by the muffled sound of something falling over. Skylar snorted, knowing her brother had possibly fallen off his bed once again in his haste to leave his room.
"Yeah, I'll leave it on the counter for you" with that, Skylar dropped the magazine on the kitchen counter before plopping down at the table. Curiously turning the red envelope around in her hands in search for a name or something. Instead, she was met with nothing. "There's no name specifying who it's for, so it wouldn't hurt to open it" the brunette mumbled, barely acknowledging her twin that came skipping into the room.
"What do you have there?" Sora asked, snatching up his magazine and plopping down at the kitchen table beside his sister.
"Don't know, just came in the mail today" Skylar answered, tearing up the top of the envelope. Only to soon blink her eyes as she stared at the slick black card she pulled out. In bright gold letters it read:
"You're invited to the biggest party of the year!"
A date, time, and address were all provided underneath. "A party invitation?" the young college student mumbled, flipping the card around to only find a small drawing of a straw hat on the back instead of a name.
"A party? What kind of party?" Sora curiously asked, watching as his sister continued to examine the card before shrugging and tossing it to him.
"Don't know, don't care."
-End of Flashback-
At the time I didn't care much to examine the card close enough, in fact, I just wanted to chuck it. Especially after seeing that the party was going to be held in the rich part of town, I felt that it had been a mistake. A mix up in the mail that we had gotten the invite and that it was meant for someone else. That feeling soon disappeared the minute Jack called the house, squealing in delight that he had gotten a party invite, then next came Summer, and then finally Drake. It confused me greatly, and out of curiosity, I ended up speaking with my neighbors.
Taken aback to learn that they too had gotten an invite in the mail. It seemed like everyone in the entire neighborhood—whether poor, middle-class, or rich—had been invited to this party. Whoever was throwing it must have been loaded or didn't understand the word limitation. "Who cares who's throwing this thing? I'm just excited that I finally get to taste all that good shit only the rich get!" Summer smiled while licking her lips in thought of all the food and alcohol that would be served.
Everyone made a sound or movement that indicated agreement to her statement. All of them excited about the fact that for once in their lives they would get to enter a part of town that was normally fenced off from the rest of us. I didn't care much, no desire of wanting to go anywhere near that area ever again. But, I had no say in the matter as I dreadfully watched Summer push open the large gates with a wide grin on her face before skipping on into the one area that everyone on the other side wished they could live in. Nice big houses and fancy cars quietly decorated the streets, lights already off as their occupants had long since fallen asleep.
"Damn, I'd give an arm and a leg for a car like that" Zach whistled as he eyed one of the cars across the streets that were parked in someone's driveway.
"I'd give my whole body to live in a house that big" Jack awed as he stopped to admire one of the manors. "It's bigger and better than that shitty apartment we're living in" after a few minutes of the others admiring different things about the nice-looking neighborhood, we continued walking, stopping as we came across another manor. This one was livelier compared to the others, a large fence all around it and separating its property off from the ones beside it. Music blared from the inside as all the lights were on, and people mingled around both outside and inside.
"This the place?" Drake asked himself, digging around in his front jean pocket.
"No, all these people are here for the international chess competition, please keep quiet" I sarcastically responded, lips twitching upwards as my legs were finally dropped and the brunet slowly looked back at me.
"I will throw your ass through one of the windows and force you to explain to the owner yourself why" Drake said, head soon whipping around the minute he heard Summer, Jack, and Sora burst out laughing. The three excitedly ran across the yard and disappeared into the lively home, already mingling in with the crowd. "Dammit! I was hoping we could all stick together until we got Skylar in the house" the brunet frowned as I slowly rolled onto my stomach and started to crawl.
"Skylar, sweetheart, where do you think you're going?" Zach innocently smiled as he placed his foot on top of my back. Stopping me in my tracks immediately.
"Shit" I nervously sweat, not daring to look up at the two pairs of eyes that stared down at me. "I beg you, have mercy!" I cried out, flailing my limbs around as the raven-haired man laughed.
"I see you have a handle on things here, make sure not to leave her alone until you know for sure she's safely secured in the house" Drake smirked, throwing the both of us a half-assed wave as he started to make his way towards the lively manor. "Heaven knows she won't be able to escape after that."
"Alright, see ya soon" Zach waved back as I groaned at the feeling of more pressure being pushed down onto my spine. "So, you ready to do this the easy way or the hard way?"
"Wait, I have one thing I need to say first" I said, causing my friend to blink his eyes before he hummed, motioning for me to continue. "I have no regrets" and with that I pushed myself up, taking him aback as his foot lifted and he stumbled backward away from me, now knocked off balance. But, just as I shot up and prepared to run, I yelped as a pair of arms snaked around my waist and pulled me back into a strong chest. "Fuck you and your fast reflexes!"
"Aw, someone wants to do this the hard way" Zach cooed as I flailed my arms around, grinding my teeth as I tried to move forward, only to groan as my body was leaned forward with my friend putting all his weight onto me. "Do you have any regrets?" he breathed out into my ear.
"I told you, have no regrets!" I proclaimed before squealing as he lifted me up off the ground. "I have one regret! I have one regret!" my heart was pounding, not enjoying the feeling of being lifted up off the ground suddenly as the man that I call my friend started to rush towards the front door. Laughing like a manic as people curiously looked at us. Some giggling as others whispered to those around them with wide smiles.
The attention was enough to make my cheeks flush, the desire to hide away from their prying eyes now hitting me full force. The minute we shoved our way through the entrance, I soon found myself dropped to the ground and left all alone in a blink of an eye. Zach laughing ass disappearing into the crowd and around a corner, leaving me to sit there and curl up in on myself at the feeling of multiple pairs of eyes curiously staring my way. Strangers who were once chatting away with other partygoers, or drinking, or even just boredly scrolling through their phones now looked my way. Wanting to know what the scene they just witnessed was about.
"Death sounds much better than this" I muttered, cheeks flushed as I tried my hardest to appear small. Only standing when I was certain that they had all grown bored and soon diverted their attention elsewhere. The only thoughts going through my mind as my feet shuffled across the floor was the desire to locate at least one of my friends, so I could glue myself to their side and wait 'til they're all ready to leave.
-Everyone's P.O.V-
Zoro boredly hummed, not the least interested in the people around him. His attention was mainly focused on the alcoholic drink in his hand than the two women that drunkenly attempted to flirt with him. Were they flirting? He wasn't sure with how slurred their voices were and how they seemed to laugh at every little thing they said. His one good eye slowly started to scan the crowded room and watched as people danced, he could barely even spot any of his friends among the crowd.
He already assumed that they were either elsewhere in the house or tucked away in their rooms, at least the ones that couldn't come out due to their appearance that is. "Does that idiot even understand limitations?" he grumbled, taking another swing from his drink before his gaze landed on a certain young woman. He raised an amused eyebrow as he watched her, she looked as if she had just been dragged across the ground on her way here what with the small twigs and leaves she was starting to pick from the mess of curls she called her hair. Her clothing seemed to be the exact opposite of what all the other women were wearing. They didn't scream out for attention or to help make the young woman feel sexy, they just snuggly fit on her body with the image of some game character plastered on the front.
She appeared to be grumbling to herself, taking small tentative steps as her eyes looked around, almost like she was searching for someone. Zoro couldn't help but be intrigued by her, he wouldn't lie, she looked quite cute with that nervous look on her face. It was also quite obvious that she probably didn't want to be here. He stood, ignoring the whines of the women on the couch as he slowly made his way towards the brunette.
-Skylar's P.O.V-
I came to a halt, taking a step back from the man that suddenly fell to the ground in front of me. His cheeks tinted a light pink and a goofy smile on his face as the contents of his cup came spilling out on the floor. "You must not be big on parties."
"Huh?" I turned my head to the side, staring for a few minutes at the man that had spoken. Not able to form any words as I stared up at his hair, it looked like one of those Chia Pet plants. I suddenly felt the need to ask him if his hair was natural while also having the strange desire to just run my fingers through it. I barely even acknowledged the scar running over his left eye.
"It's quite rude to stare" the stranger smirked as I felt my cheeks flush a bit, adverting my eyes elsewhere in embarrassment.
"Right, sorry" I mumbled. "You're right, I'm not that big on parties, I'm more of the stay at home kind of gal" I crossed my arms behind my back, slowly starting to rock back and forth on the balls of my feet. The man only hummed before suddenly holding a hand out towards me, the smirk on his face widening when I owlishly blinked my eyes, just staring at the outstretched hand.
"The name's Zoro" he introduced himself, motioning with his head for me to do the same.
"Uh, Skylar" hesitantly I reached a hand out and lightly grasped his own, giving it a small shake. I couldn't help but note just how warm and nice it felt to have his hand holding mine. But still, I wasn't dense. Even if I hadn't gone to most parties in my life, I remember the stories the others would tell me from their past experiences. It was obvious that most people who attended parties this large rarely think about making friends, no, common sense told you that when you put a bunch of young people in a house filled with alcohol, friendship is the last thing on their mind. Most men and women only wanted one thing when it came to these types of scenarios it seemed.
So, I kept silent, keeping a close eye on the moss haired man's movements as he stood there. His one good eye moving up and down as if taking in as much as he could of my appearance. "Well, it was nice meeting you" I finally spoke up after determining that he wasn't going to speak. "But…um…I need to go and find my friends" slowly I started to take small steps backward, ready to put distance between myself and this stranger.
"Why the rush?" Zoro asked, tilting his head while the smirk on his lips started to widen. Almost as if he was amused by my nervous state. Perhaps he was, I remember Jack once telling me that some men found such a trait cute. "I'm sure your friends are fine, why not stay and chat a while?" he asked, quick to follow as I continued to back up.
"No, that's quite alright" I nervously laughed, the desire to locate one of my friends now becoming stronger. I wasn't scared that this man was going to pull anything or try to flirt, no, I just simply didn't want to deal with the anxiety that came with talking to someone new. Someone I know nothing about and most likely didn't know or care much about the things I normally liked to talk about. I had no idea where I was going as I continued to back up, casting glances back occasionally to help myself to avoid knocking into people. But, sadly it wasn't long before I felt my back be met with the cool surface of the wall.
"Eh?" I turned my head left and right, pressing the palm of my hands against the wall to make sure that it was indeed solid. Looking to the right, I felt as if the world had just played the cruelest joke on me as I notice just how close I had been to the kitchen doorway. I flinched at the two hands that were pressed against either side of my head as the moss haired man leaned forward until I could feel his warm breath against my skin. His one eye gleaming with amusement and curiosity as he stared at me.
"You're quite amusing, you know that?" Zoro breathed out. 'I literally just met you!' I felt my face flush a bright red upon hearing his words.
