"I hate you, Riku!"
The words flew explosively from Sora, his bright blue eyes glaring directly at me, as if to bore a hole in my skull. I blinked. What brought that on? We were just sitting on the beach, watching the tide come in.
"You...hate me?"
"Yeah! I hate you 'cause you're tall!"
I tried to control myself, but I couldn't help it. The sight of Sora's cheeks puffing up indignantly made me crack up in laughter. He pouted, punching me playfully on the arm.
"Don't laugh at me, you...you tall person!"
I chuckled at the randomness of his words, trying to fend off his attacks.
"You can't hate me just because I'm tall! That's a silly reason to hate someone."
"It's valid!"
"Okay, fine, so what's your reason? And stop hitting me already."
Sora stopped trying to turn my arm into a punching bag, and pouted at me again.
"Well, I always end up having to jump up and down when I can't reach something on a high shelf, while you just coolly reach up and make me look stupid."
I stifled another laugh as Sora gave me a threatening look.
"And you make me look short! Stop laughing!"
"I'm sorry! Your reasons are all just so silly!"
"And I can't kiss you either because you're too ta-"
Sora stopped mid-sentence, turning bright red. I looked at him blankly, caught off guard.
"For...forget I said anything."
"Well...we're both sitting down, so I'm about the same height as you now."
At that, he looked up, and moved closer to me. Even though our height difference was mostly negated by sitting down, I found myself having to lean down just the slightest bit to receive his kiss. His cheeks were still a faint red when he pulled away.
"Next time...I'm asking you to do that instead. I don't want to tiptoe."
"That's perfectly fine by me, Sora. I don't want to need to sit down everytime to return the favour, either."
Sora flashed me a shy smile, moving closer again.
"Meanie."
