Title: Envy

Summary: He got why their dad had done it. But that didn't make it any easier. Drabble for "Jump The Shark."

Spoilers: Major spoilers for "Jump The Shark."

Disclaimer: Can I have Dean, please? I'll treat him well, I promise! I admit, I have killed him off in my fics before…but that's not a good reason to say no! Just look at Kripke! ;)

A/N: "Jump The Shark," really surprised me. Like a lot of fans, I was really nervous about the idea of Dean and Sam having another brother, but I thought they handled the story well, and I liked the insight it gave us into the brothers, especially Dean. His reaction really stuck with me after I watched the episode.

A/N2: As all ways, to God be the glory. Without Him, I would never be able to write. :)

I hope you enjoy it, and please let me know what you think!

Envy

Adam was our brother. He died like a hunter. He deserves to go out like one.

Dean had meant what he'd said. They might not have known about him, but he was still their brother and that meant something. It meant a lot. But the thing was, Sam had been right when he'd asked if Dean was jealous. Dean was jealous of Adam. Jealous and angry.

It felt wrong, especially here and now, at the kid's funeral… But that didn't stop the jealousy from burning bitterly in his soul, bright and hot as the flames that were turning their little brother's body to ash.

A couple years ago, he might have tried to talk to Sammy about it…but Sammy was gone, and Sam - this Sam - was different. He'd only use it against him later, see it as proof that Dean was broken…weak.

And maybe he was.

He just didn't know anymore. He didn't know what he was supposed to feel or think…or what he was supposed to do. Blow after blow kept coming, never giving him a chance to find his footing, and he was scrambling to keep up.

John Winchester had been his father. But he'd been Adam's dad.

Funny, how of all the blows…that one hurt the most.

A/N: I haven't read any of the other tags for "Jump The Shark," yet, so any similarities to other tags is unintentional. The bunny just insisted I write it. :) I also wrote another piece connected to this one called, "Just Once," that's from John's POV, about the first time he visited Adam.

Thank you for reading! Please let me know what you think!

Take care and God bless!
