Author's Note: HELLO PEOPLE! This is the second story of "Children of the Kingdom". This actually takes place after Believe. I will finish Believe soon. I thought I should start posting these stories before I get sick of Twilight. Read, and review!!

It was 5 a.m. and Mom was already yelling at me.

"Get breakfast ready, girl!"

Mona was crying. I grabbed my three-year-old sister out of her bed, and carried her to the kitchen. My mom was on the couch, smoking cigarettes and drinking Captain Morgan. Nothi8ng unusual.

Patrick trudged into the kitchen. Poor little guy. He's the only seven year old in the U.S.A., who has to wake up at dawn.

I was making scrambled eggs when my mom came over and stood next to me.

"Do you have any cash?"

I signed. "No, I spent the last of it paying for the groceries."

She scowled. "You're no good if you don't bring money. Gotta pull your own weight."

I just stood there. Avani, you're an idiot. You should say something. But, what's the point? She'll just beat me again.

As I set breakfast down, Mom was slapping Patrick.

"You do not eat before me!" She kept slapping him across the face. I ran over and quickly pulled him out of the chair.

I carried him over to my seat and set him down.

Mom stormed upstairs, probably to sample some of her stash.

"Patrick, start eating. I've got an early shift at the diner."

I work at Mel's Diner, the local diner. Since, in a couple months I'll be fifteen, they overlook my age. Liz, the owner/manager/head waitress, also seems to know that I need the money from the job.

Patrick had finished eating, and I finished serving Mona.

I carried Mona back to her room. Pulling clothes out of the drawer, I saw Mom in her room, throwing clothes everywhere.

"I have no clothes! I might have to go out naked…"

It seemed like a normal day in my house…

AN: I know, a little different. Things will play out, you'll see…
