Part One: Trisha Elric
~Chapter One~
Trisha's POV
I woke up on Sunday morning to sunlight pouring through my open window. I sat up and brushed the hair from my face. I missed him. I missed him a lot more than I would show. I missed his kind golden-brown eyes and his golden hair; everything about him.
"Let me do something!" my four year old son Alphonse cried.
"You might mess it up!" my five year old son Edward replied.
"I won't!"
"Fine! Carry this! Now be quiet!"
I forgot what day it was today! I said to myself. I knew what they were doing, and I decided to close my eyes -for their sake. I laid back down and closed my eyes. Then, I heard the door quietly open, and I felt small hands (Alphonse's?) "shake me awake". I opened one eye to look at my two sons.
They look so much like their father, I told myself. Ed had the same golden-brown eyes, they both had the blonde hair, and Alphonse, I don't know how to explain how he looked like his father. He was to young yet. He just had resemblance to Ed, and that was close enough. Instead of golden-brown eyes, Al's were a deep, puppy-dog brown color. Ed was wearing a yellow and red striped shirt and brown shorts, and Al was wearing a brown shirt with jeans.
"What is it?" I sweetly asked them. Ed's wild smile crossed his face and Al's sweet smile crossed his.
"HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!" the two children cried in unison. I gasped happily. Ed and Al, who weren't even in first grade yet, had gotten me cereal, poured me some orange juice, and made me some toast!
"Did you do this all yourselves?" I asked excitedly.
"Mmhmm!" Ed responded.
"You two really are amazing!" I said, "But... did you make a mess?"
"Yes," Al said truthfully, "but we cleaned it up!"
"You two are just little angels!" I cried happily. "Hey, why don't we call Auntie Pinako to tell her 'Happy mother's day'?"
"Yeah!" Al cried.
"Wait," Ed said, "but isn't Auntie a grandma?" Ed asked. I laughed.
"Grandmas are moms too, Ed," I said.
I got out of bed and quickly got dressed. Then I went down stairs. As I walked down the multiple stairs, a thought crossed my mind. The kitchen still might be a mess. When I walked into the kitchen, my jaw dropped. The kitchen was spotless. Cleaner than it was the night before!
"Did you clean up the kitchen for me?" I asked happily. My sons smiled and nodded. "This is the best Mother's Day ever!" I cried.I swooped Al up into, held him in one arm, and picked Ed up with my spare arm. Then, I "squeezed them with love", as he used to say.
"Alright, let's call Auntie."
After singing Pinako "Happy Mother's Day" to the tune of "Happy Birthday" (Al's idea), Pinkao told me some news.
"Sarah and Urey are home," she said.
"Really?" I asked. "Oh, That's wonderful!"
"Do you want Ed and Al to come over here so you and Sarah can catch up? It's a Mother's Day treat."
"And you? It's your day to."
"My treat is my son and daughter-in-law coming home. Winry'll play with the boys."
"Thank you, Pinako. Do you want me to walk the boys over or..."
"Sarah will come over to get you and the boys, and you can show her around the town, if that's fine with you."
"That's perfect."
Sarah and Urey were doctors, surgeons even, in a war in the desert country of Ishvala. No one knew how the war started, but rumors were spreading that our military started it. There were many injuries and deaths. Sarah and Urey didn't know which side was guilty, so they helped both. They had patients that were both Ishvalan, and soldiers from Amestris, our country.
A few minutes after I hung up the phone with Pinako, there was a know at the door. I answered it to see an the face of a childhood friend.
"Sarah!"
"Hey Trisha!" I through my arms around her. When I let go, I examined her. "You haven't changed a bit."
"You've changed a little since the last time we saw each other. You were pregnant! How is the baby? I honestly don't know anything."
"Just wait. Alphonse!"
"A boy! You and Hohenheim wouldn't tell me."
"Hohenheim..." I whispered my lost husbands name. Sarah gasped.
"Oh Trisha! I completely forgot! I am so sorry!"
"I-it's fine," I said, "I just don't want to talk about him."
"Do you still believe he's going to come back?"
"Why wouldn't he? And, how do you know he left?"
"Winry told me in a letter."
"Oh... Winry. Hey boys!"
"Sorry I took so long, Mom," Al said, using his socks to slide on the tile floor to our front door.
"Al," I smiled, "this is Mrs. Rockbell, Winry's mom."
"Hi..." Al said.
"Yeah Mom?" Ed cried from the family room before running to the front door.
"Introduce yourselves please," I told my sons. "Ed, this is Winry's mom, Mrs. Rockbell."
"Hya!" Ed said. "I'm Edward and that's my little brother Alphonse!"
"Well hello you two," Sarah replied, "nice to meet you. How old are you?"
"Al's four, I'm five."
"Alright! Boy, Ed, you grew a lot since I saw you last! Do you know how old you were?"
"No...?"
"You were this many!" Sarah laughed as she held up two of her fingers. "Not even that old yet! Al wasn't born yet."
"Ed and Al are pretty smart for their ages," I said. "Ed, how high can you count?"
"To a thousand!" he said. Sarah laughed.
"Well Winry wants to play with you two," Sarah smiled.
"Then you make sure she doesn't tease me!"
