The two time lords ran across gallifrey in a race against time. As they ran and leapt over the debris of the war that was tearing their beloved homeworld, as well as the universe, apart. Just as they reached the time machine, the younger of the two, a tan young man, with hair a peculiar shade between auburn and ginger, dressed in a simple orange uniform, paused.
Despite the immediate danger of being trapped on the dying planet, forever, he couldn't help but be stunned by the brutal nature of the war.
"They killed them. Why did they do that- all of them. They were just children and mothers-" the older of the pair, dressed in antique earth clothes, interrupted him "I understand what your feeling, but if we don't leave in about five minutes then we're not going to be able to mourn them" The he seemed to shake himself out of his sorrow, his face serious, he nodded, he turned and walked towards the TARDIS he was almost inside when the Dalek shot him. Luckily the creature, almost pitiable at this point, was in its death throes, and when the doctor deactivated the life support systems that kept the inevitable at bay ,it was almost a mercy. When the doctor returned his young companion was crouched, holding the place in his chest where the shot had hit him and was grimacing in pain. Slowly the injured time lord's hands began to glow, and fear was had begun to take hold through his shock. "Doctor...what's happening?"
The elder time lord helped him to his feet "It's alright, you're regenerating. This is normal" The younger time lord's face paled "Doctor, I've never regenerated before-"
"Don't worry, you'll change a little but you're going to be OK"
The young time lord began to shiver, his body glowing brighter "Doctor does it always hurt so badly?" He asked, eyes watering, teeth clenched.
"Yes and I'm not going to lie, it's going to get worse. What we need to focus on right now is getting you inside the TARDIS before you start to supernova." The younger man nodded and they began to walk towards it.
Then, another shot was fired. This time it what direction or side it came from but it was accurate all the same.
It hit him in the middle of his back, right between the shoulder blades. The last expression on his face was one of extreme shock. one which the Doctor's face mirrored as the younger man went limp in the Doctor's grip, the glowing light faded completely. "CLOCKWORK!" the Doctor shouted, but the young time lord, one who had idolized the doctor ever since he'd met him as a child, was already too far gone to hear. The Doctor gently set the body of the other time lord on the ground and backed away, Numb from shock. Then he remembered had little time left, he glanced at the body, after all it was just that now, no reason to deny this anymore, before running into the TARDIS and leaving the horrors of The dying planet Gallifrey behind.
